Plot: We pan across a beautiful tropical landscape, a place known as Whammia. After getting an overview of it's beautiful greenery, large mansions and wonderful beaches, we get our first look at our inhabitants; a red creature with a dollar symbol on its chest called The Whammy. For many years, The Whammies lived in paradise employing a strategy of other people's money using whatever means necessary. Most commonly known for their disguises, the Whammy is also known for taking jobs and conning others with persuasion and bargaining ability. Those skills led to Whammia being the glorious moneyhole it is today.

And then, everything changed when a man tired of having his money stolen creates a way to connect with others and warn them of their plans. Simply called The Puzzlemaster (John Cena), he created a board to keep an eye on the Whammies and awarded people who exposed them goods and necessities needed for survival. As for the Whammies, their profits spiralled and their once happy land delved into poverty. Now a shell of what it once was, it is hoped that Whammia will once again rise and a new era will begin.

A youngish looking Whammy is seen inside his bedroom, staring at his phone. Whamm (Maulik Pancholy) is then ordered by his mom to get dressed as a clan meeting is happening today. As he reluctantly gets ready, we look outside to find that Whammia is an absolute disaster. The greenery? Gone. Those once shiny beaches? Filled with Whammy waste. The large mansions? Replaced with huts. Even then, one Whammy heading to the meeting remains optimistic. The spirited Whamella (Amy Poehler).

As all the Whammies gather inside Whammia Hall, we are introduced to the head Whammy in charge. The one and only...Whammy (Lewis Black). After much speculation, Whammy settles everyone down and makes an announcement. Today the government of Whammia has learned that they are to exhaust the last of their money banks by the winter. The budget cuts on housing and hygiene have failed to work as expected. He reveals that there is an even worse projection. the winter is expected to be especially harsh and should things continue in this path, Whammia will be rendered uninhabitable and their kind will go extinct.

As the Whammies freak out, Whammy gets out a megaphone and a kazoo, squeaking a loud sour note to shut everyone up. With everyone's attention focused on him, Whammy explains that he and a group of economists have discovered another island not too far from here, a place called Money Island. There, they will be able to conjure and much cash as they wish. The plan is to gather only the best Whammies to join him on his journey. He asks if anyone is willing to join him...and embarrassingly, everyone laughs. One Whammy points out that all his stunts to make Whammia great again have failed, even as Whammy points out that this is different, it is not enough. As everyone continues to heckle him and his plan, Whammia watches on unsure of what to do.

That evening Whammia stays by Whammia Hall looking for Whammy. After stumbling upon a room full of chickens and getting slimed on, she finds Whammy slumped on his chair, looking over several sheets. Nervously, she asks if she can talk to him. He accepts, saying it won't matter in the long run. Upon sitting down, she introduces herself to him and apologizes for the behavior of the others. He isn't surprised, it's been this way ever since The Puzzlemaster exposed their ways. He shows her several extravagant disguise concepts, all of which were shot down. Eventually the influence Puzzlemaster had grew so powerful, they had to resort to new tactics. None of which were successful. Money Island was his last chance to save Whammia, and no one bought it…

Except for Whammella. She tells him that she'd be happy to go on this adventure, especially since she's wanted to get out and explore the world. Intrigued by her enthusiasm, Whammy gets his confidence and the two set off to find some more people to join their crusade. The two soon find Whamm, still here and glued onto his phone. Whammy invites him to join them on the journey, when Whamm tries to blow him off by saying "Whatever", he takes it as a yes. Not long after, a funny looking Whammy named Wally (Craig Ferguson) comes up to them and rambles about a good chat with the spitting. Despite not understanding his sentences, the lack of any suitors makes him a member of the team. Whammy soon realizes he has one more member to introduce and rushes home to get his baby daughter Baby Whammy (Andrea Libman). Everyone crowds the baby, entranced by her adorable nature. Uncomfortable, the baby bites the nose of Wally, forcing everyone to stand back.

With the team set, the group come up with various ways to get to Money Island. None of which are successful. In the end, Whamm suggests building a yacht for everyone which proves to be the winning idea. After several frustrating days constructing their boat, Team Whammy sets sail leaving Whammia in search of Money Island. Little do they know, their progress is being watched on the spots on a puzzle board. The Puzzlemaster's puzzle board. Sensing possible danger, he begins to plan his first motive of attack declaring his scheme Operation Press Your Luck.

On the U.S.S Money, Whammy attempts a roll call. Only Whamella seems interested as Whamm again has his face attached to his phone and Wally is busy arguing with a shark. Whamm complains about the lack of wifi, something not in the Whammia budget. All of a sudden, Whamm's phone shuts off...only for the voice of the Puzzlemaster to be heard. He reveals he hacked into his phone and has learned of their trip. Needless to say, he has no problem taking the Whammy clan down once and for all. And he knows how to do it.

Perhaps by coincidence, several thunderclouds appear and a terrible storm occurs. Whammy and Whammela try to steer the ship in the right direction but it proves to be fruitless as the entire gang is overcome by the waves. A few minutes pass and Whammy awakens, finding himself on the set of…a game show? The Puzzle Master appears on the board, calling for a game of Family Feud! The two families stare each other down, ready to unleash a verbal war. If the gang can prevent a brawl from breaking between the two hyper-competitive families, they will retain their ship. If not, the puzzle board will swallow them up and make them his new accessories.

What follows is a series of mishaps involving the group as they have never heard of such a game. Perhaps shockingly, Whamm again proves to be an asset showing a decent knowledge of the game. He is made host and proves to do well, but when one of the family members is suspected of cheating both families start to jaw at one another. Before one can throw a punch, Wally speaks up talking about how "the sun and the moon know how to coexist despite being different". Despite his ramblings, they prove poignant enough to stop the argument and finish the game on a positive note.

With their ship retained, the Whammies again set sail. Whammela takes a moment to bask in the sun and reminisce on the journey so far. It doesn't last as Whammy asks her to check on Baby Whammy. Whammella attempts to sing a lullaby, but a stinky diaper halts those plans. She tries to change her diaper in one of the rooms but the baby wants to keep her dirty diaper. Realizing what happened last time the baby was challenged, she lets her keep the diaper just in case. Back on the ship, Whamm tries to get his phone but Whammy reminds him that the phone is now off-limits only infuriating him. Whammy's vague remarks on his potential don't help matters. Whamm comes up to him, trying to complain but a flustered Whamella manages to calm both sides. As the scene dissipates, she sees if their leader will say anything about the work she's been doing. All he asks is how the baby is doing.

Night falls and the only one awake is Wally. An eerie whisper calls his name and despite his fears, he curiously walks up to the phone placing it on his ear. The Puzzlemaster (using a voice modifier) tells him he knows how to get to Money Island and to follow his direction. Wally walks back to the steering wheel, phone on ear as he listens to his every move. The next morning, Wally excitedly wakes up everyone declaring that they made it to 'Sugar Daddy Saloon of Sorts'. Excitedly believing that they've reached Money Island, the crew rush off to boat only to find that they are at Showcase Casino. Despite their disappointment and Whammy's angrily over Wally using faulty directions, they decide to explore its contents finding a cascade of games using cutting-edge technology and skill. During their investigation, The Puzzlemaster appears again this time next to a Carnival-styled wheel. He invites the Whammies to play a game of Wheel of Fortune where they can win as much as they wish. Tempted but not intrigued, Whammy leaves the others to play his game.

As Whammy wanders the casino wondering what has gone wrong with his quest, he comes across a vulture spinning a big wheel. Curious, he inches closer to get a better look only to bump into him. After the rough start, the vulture soon recognizes him and introduces himself as Raffi (John De Lancie), a distant relative of the Whammy clan. The two soon bond over their love of money and Whammy offers him a spot on the team which he accepts. The two set off in search of the others, only to find that The Puzzlemaster is more interested in adding complex rules and changing puzzles every few letters. Whammy forces everyone back in the yacht and warns Puzzlemaster to stay away from his group. He promises, but only because he knows that the price is right.

Tensions begin to rise as soon as they get on the boat. Whammy is still upset at Wally for the poor directions, Whamm is growing more short-tempered without social media and Whamella's attempts to talk to Whammy end with her again watching over the baby. It seems the only one everyone trusts is Raffi. One evening, Raffi sees Whamella looking at the waves feeling depressed and asks what the matter is. She admits that she thought the adventure would have more excitement, more chances to see the outside world. But instead she has been more of an afterthought. Taking pity on her, Raffi assures her that the trip is still young and there will be plenty of chances to see the world. Upon being asked what Money Island is like, Raffi and Whamella sit down and he tells the story of a young poor vulture who got separated from his family and searched across the world to find his parents. One night during a terrible storm, he needed a place to land. So he found a palm tree and hid under its leaves for the night. Little did he now, he was sleeping next to hundred dollar bills. That morning, when he set out to explore the realm, he found cash representing all currency. Overjoyed, he wanted to tell those about this island, but decided not to, fearing that one day, the money from the island would be depleted. Since then the vulture has visited the island once a month to restock on what he needs. His name? Raffi. Whammela is amazed, saying she has never gotten to know Whammy in such a personal light. He always seems to keep to himself and his quest to get to Money Island. Raffi can understand why, from what he heard his village is in dire straits. At the same time, he feels once the journey is over the real Whammy will come forward. After that, the two bid each other goodnight.

In the Puzzlemaster’s room, he shuts off his puzzle board for the night and he steps back taking a good look at all the slots before stepping up from his chair and heading off to claim something. As he slowly makes his way to his room, the taunting of Whammies fill his mind including the Whammy’s warning to stay away from the group. Finally, he comes face to face with a picture of a happy family, staring at it for several seconds, blanking the jeers and taunts from his mind. It is there he makes his cerebral declaration to purge the Whammies from existence once and for all.

The next morning, tensions continue to remain steadfast with no conversations coming from anyone. Wally tries to lighten the mood by singing a sea-shanty, for a moment it seems to work as everyone except Whammy joins in. All of a sudden, the U.S.S Money is hit by a mysterious boulder and creates a large crack in the boat. As the ship sinks, everyone evacuates by grabbing life preserves and diving off the ship. As everyone flees the wreckage, Whammy stares at what once was his ship, his aspirations sinking with it.

The group arrives to a small island, Whammy lagging behind the others. Sure enough, Whamm begins to freak out over his phone being lost while Wally tries to calm down the baby, unknowingly succeeding in horrifying it instead. Finally, Whammy snaps and calls out the entire group for their attitude throughout the entire quest. He thought he had assembled a group that would save Whammia, instead he's found an entitled brat, an incompetence loon and a starry-eyed follower.

Finally having lost her patience, Whammella tells him that they all wanted to help just like him but he's been so wound up over the quest that he's forgotten about the people that are supposed to be his allies citing Whamm's hosting, Wally's big heart and Raffi's experience. In the heat of the moment she exclaims loudly that the journey has meant more than the quest. Stunned and visibly shaken, the Whammy turns away and tells her that the journey is over, forcing them to leave. Initially reluctant, the group departs. Everyone that is, except for Baby Whammy and Raffi who remain determined to reach Money Island. A depressed Whammy says he can still go, but it doesn't matter to him. Everything is ruined.

Raffi offers to at least fly him home to break the news, which he accepts. Whammy climbs up onto the vulture, but before they can take off they both hear chanting. Whammy hops off, looking deeper into the area. As the chants get louder, he begins to fear for his life until…

Some time has passed and Whammy finally wakes up, bruises and scars found all over his body. The first thing he sees upon regaining consciousness is a large puzzle board with the Puzzlemaster standing at the center, his face hidden with a dark hoodie. He welcomes Whammy to his home, revealing that he has found a secret entrance. He then introduces him to the people who took him here, ordering them to come on down. Sure enough, one hundred men and women march together, glaring at the Whammy.

The Puzzlemaster tells him that he has gathered them together because they are merely a hundred of millions of people the Whammies have tormented. Several people have lost jobs, opportunities, relationships because of their money-stealing ways and now the past has come to haunt him. In defiance, Whammy tells him he will never destroy the heart of Whammia. The Puzzlemaster counters by showing him a montage of various disasters that have happened since his departure, leaving the population count decimated and on the brink. Horrified, Whammy accuses him of all the ongoings. All The Puzzlemaster can say is "How can you be sure that I was the one who caused everything to fall into place? It could very well be coincidence." He then opens the forum to the people, and hearing the stories of how his clan ruined their lives breaks him mentally, to the point where he admits he doesn't deserve to rule Whammia.

Back home in Whammia, Raffi manages to gather what few Whammies remain and warns them that their leader is in great danger, revealing that the Puzzlemaster is leading a genocide against them all. At this point, the Whammies appear ready to die. But in spite of the sour exit, Whammela manages to rally the troops giving an impassioned speech on never giving up and always believing for what you stand for and for trying out new things. This isn't about saving Whammia, this is about saving someone who deep down, she still knows is a friend.

Raffi and Whamella gather as many Whammies as they can and fly back to the mysterious island, searching for the village that took Whammy out. Raffi and Wally go one way and Whamella and Whamm take the other. Back in the lair, the heckling spree has devolved into full on violence as the mob chases after Whammy. Eventually, he finds himself at a dead-end and watches on as The Puzzlemaster prepares the mob to destroy him…

And then, a stinky baby diaper decks one of his slots putting it out of commission. Whammy looks around to find the person responsible, stunned to find his old group. Filled with a new sense of determination, he fights back against the mob and gets to the others, apologizing for his selfish behavior. That no longer matters now as the ultimate battle for the fate of Whammia begins.

As the Whammies and humans clash, Whamm tries to psyche the Puzzlemaster out by hacking into his board and leaking embarrassing photos of him in place of hidden cameras. Wally goes on the aggressive, hitting any screen that so dare shows his face (and he switches screens a lot) while Whammella uses Baby Whammy as a shield, members of the mob becoming victims of it's fury. Soon the mob is defeated and many of the Puzzlemaster's boards have been tarnished or destroyed by Wally's fists. Having had enough, The Puzzlemaster unleashes one final attack. An electric shock jolts the Whammies, a jolt so powerful it knocks most of them out. Nearly unconscious, Whammy stares at the Puzzlemaster begging him for forgiveness.

It's far too late he says. Not after what he has done to so many innocent people. He tells Whammy a story, a story about a man who had his life figured out. He had the perfect marriage, job and life. And then, the Whammies struck. He was accused of a gambling addiction he never had and lost everything. It is because of this he put his computer tech skills to use, creating the puzzle board and the persona they see today. The Whammies started this by ruining his life, now he wishes to end theirs.

Realizing the root of the dispute, Whammy manages to sympathize with him. All he wanted was to keep his home safe and prosperous, but when he struck it forced him to change plans. He admits they ruined so many lives, but that they never will again. They have found a new place that will fuel Whammia for many years to come. If he must die, then let him. But at least bury the hatchet. The two stare each other down, The Puzzlemaster seemingly taking his offer seriously…

Only to once again proclaim that it is far too late. With that Whammela throws one last stinky diaper on the center of the puzzle board, causing it to short-circuit. Everyone jumps onto Raffi and flies out of the lair before the board explodes. With the Puzzlemaster defeated, the Whammies set off for Money Island. Upon arrival, they come to realize that it is everything Raffi said about the island and more. As the Whammies take their fair share, Whamm comes across a cute Whammy girl around the same age as him and begins to soften up. Meanwhile Wally happily gabs about 'victory for the dog that is small'. As Whammy looks around, seeing his newfound riches, he comes across Whammela and the two embrace, admitting she was right. The journey was worth more than the quest itself.

That evening, when the Whammies have filled their pockets up, Whammy gathers everyone for an announcement. From here on in, he will no longer govern on his own...instead, the entire group that joined him shall join him as their very own parliament. From here on in, everyone will have a say on how Whammia is run. As the Whammies rejoice, a closing montage shows the Whammies slowly rebuilding their new home. Raffi becomes a sort of celebrity and now teaches children in Whammymeletary School, Wally repurposes the old disguises, creating new jobs for Whammies in the process, Whamm becomes their chief executive in technology and is slowly learning how to interact with others outside the social media bubble.

Whammella stares at the outside world of Whammia, amazed with its revival when Whammy asks her if she'd like to join the others for a picnic in which the vice president accepts. The group that saved Whammia joins together on the clean beaches, taking in the beautiful greenery and admiring the huge mansions only now realizing that Whammia has finally risen again.
