Reaction: A return to box office form for Tim Burton (and Jacob Jones to a lesser extent). I'm sure both are happy with the outcome after how poorly Mask of the Phantom did at the box office.
"Writer Jacob Jones helps director Tim Burton make the first Time Burton film I didn't walk out of, which after years of seeing Burton try to be his former self it's very welcoming. The cast delivers on taking the story seriously and Jones script performs as an overdue unique look on the Werewolf genre." -Robbie Villeneuve, Time Magazine
"The script from writer Jacob Jones is too overly convoluted to make the most of its concept. The writing doesn't allow the film's star-studded and supremely talented cast do much more than go through the motions. Only Jeremy Irons really stands out, but not always in a good way (think his performance in Dungeons and Dragons for comparison)." - Brenton Smalls, Playboy
"Gathering of the Wolves is strengthened by director Tim Burton's gloomy style and a superstar cast that can make the characters all pop much more than the script gives them on paper. The story could definitely have been simplified with the film featuring a few too many scenes that slow down the film's pace and don't push the story forward. It's a decent film that could have been a really good film with a clearer story." - Lenny McCoy, The Morning Observer
Rated R for violence and some frightening imagery
