Reaction: Several things clearly combined to hurt the box office on this one. The three biggest reasons from the studio's perspective are that the filmmakers may have overestimated the branding potential of Jimmy Neutron, the franchise's original fan base may have aged out of the material and the film was almost completely lacking in any star power. At the end of the day, box office success simply wasn't in the cards for this one.

"'Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius' is compared to Disney's live-action adaptations. Despite some rearrangements in the storyline, the reviewer appreciated the effort by writer Jacob Jones and Director Pete Doctor to capture the fun essence of the original animated film. However, I was disappointed with some of the cast performances, which made him feel like leaving the theater in the middle of the movie. On a positive note, Edward Norton's performance as the villain was perfect." - Tiffany Osmose, Associated Press

"While Jimmy Neutron may a bit slow at times and is definitely overly long for a film meant for younger audiences, it remains entertaining for the most part. Julian Hilliard is decent in the title role, while Edward Norton clearly has some fun voicing the film's villain." - Tim Givens, Lexington Ledger

"Like some other live action cartoon adaptations aimed at younger children, Jimmy Neutron loses a lot of its charm in the translation. Some of the supporting cast felt more like sitcom or TV movie caliber choices rather than a legitimate Hollywood production. Julian Hilliard looks little like the animated version of the title role, but it seems like he has the talent to grow into a solid young actor based on his performance here." - Frank Estelle, Boca Breeze

Rated PG for adventure violence, rude humor and thematic material
