Round 4 was an all-around decent round with all the films earning a profit. Here's The Roundup....
3. Soundtracks
I didn't actually like the soundtrack to The Hippie Preacher very much as the song choices were all overused, played out, obvious choices. That said, it was the fifth soundtrack of the season so far, which is encouraging as the more films with soundtracks, the more competitive the Best Soundtrack category will be at the Golden Reel Awards.
2. Box Office
Once again, it was nice to have all three films turn a profit, even if they were all small profits.
1. Wyatt Russell
The Hippie Preacher would not have worked without Wyatt Russell in the title role as Lonnie Frisbee. He makes up for a lot of the film's problems through his charm and charisma alone.
3. The Hippie Preacher
Aside from the casting of Russell, Chandler and Dern, I didn't really care much for the film and its story. I don't think Conn's script actually had any true insight into Frisbee as a character or Chuck Smith for that matter. It was all very surface level like most mediocre biopics.
2. Nightcrawler: Demons of the Past
I just don't think that Nightcrawler is an X-Men character who can carry his own film. The film certainly wasn't terrible, but it just didn't feel like a character who needed a film to tell his story.
1. Profits
Even with all three films earning a profit this round, they really didn't add up to much.
