Reaction: It would seem that we have found the studio's next A-Lister with young star Jacob Elordi helping catapult the film to financial success above the studio's own expectations.

"This American Gigolo is a stylish update of the 1980 classic, although it is a bit overly faithful at times. The film is elevated by Jacob Elordi's magnetic performance as Julian Kaye. Elordi is mesmerizing, effortlessly embodying Julian's charm and complexity, making every scene captivating, while bringing a different attitude and vibe to the role than Richard Gere did in the original. Elordi makes the role his own and the supporting cast around him is better than what Schrader had to work with 44 years ago." - Cooper Wilson, The Earl Hays Press

"The original 'American Gigolo' was noteworthy, and this remake is better than the forgettable TV series. However, it adds nothing new and feels like a simple modern facelift with Sorrentino's slick (but mostly visually oriented) direction. Despite Jacob Elordi's dynamic performance, only Sarah Godan and Marlon Wayans stand out, while the rest of the cast falls massively short. For me, The soundtrack is the only saving grace. Overall, it's a disappointing effort from Horne, usually a master of this storytelling. But hey, no one is perfect." - Camry Jane-Michaels, San Jose Mercury News

"This remake doesn't feel like it ventures too far from the original 1980 Paul Schrader film, but that's perfectly fine in the hands of Sorrentino and Horne—both well-experienced with stylish psychological thrillers. Elordi has always excelled at portraying characters with a seething anger under the surface, making this performance more and more impressive as he spirals into his paranoid breakdown. And it doesn't hurt that he's also surrounded by complimentary supporting performances from Gadon, Ribisi, and Wayans." - Reggie Coscarelli, San Fernando Valley Sun

Rated R for strong sexual content, nudity, language, and some violence
