Plot: Based on the true story of the Papin sisters.

The story takes place in Paris in the early 1900s. Christine (Dakota Fanning) and Lea (Elle Fanning) are two sisters who have a very strong bond since their childhood. There is also another sister, Marylyn (Bella Heathcote) whose traces were lost after she was removed from her family and she took refuge in a convent after the alleged repeated abuse of her alcoholic father against her. Christine and Lea were sent to the orphanage by their mother when they were still small and grew up in this environment until they were old enough.

They were then hired by a family of nobles as servants. In this family is father Mick Lanchelin (Jason Sudeikis), his wife Emily Lanchelin (Eva Green) and their teenage daughter Michelle Lanchelin (Willow Shields). In his house there was also Mick's father, Jean (Jon Voight), seriously ill and often in bed.

In the first months the sisters carried out all their tasks very well, with clean clothes and always tidy hair and they spoke little. In short, they were the stereotype of perfect servants and these characteristics made them adorable in the eyes of the Lanchelin family. They were also excellent cooks and very good at sewing and cleaning. This is why Madame Lanchelin had given them free Sunday.

The only person a little troubled was her daughter Michelle, the look of Christine and Lea did not like her and she had noticed strange things (wounds on the body of the two, red spots on her clothes when they came back from Sunday on leave ...). He also noticed that they moved, slept and always worked in two. Her fears took more and more foot until she read in the newspaper that many murders had been committed in Paris those months and the investigations of Chief Inspector Crux (Timothy Olyphant) had revealed that there were two murderers.

Little by little the other members of the Lanchelin family die (Jean had died in mysterious circumstances in January.) Seemed unsettled by the look of the two sisters and especially Emily had begun to scold and often insult them when she was alone at home with them.

On February 2 Emily and Michelle had gone out for some expenses and in the house jumped the power until Lea was ironing, she began to cry, out of fear of Madame Lanchelin's reaction, but Christine took her to their room and lay down in bed. When Emily returned she was alarmed to see the house completely shrouded in darkness and began to call the two servants angrily.

Soon a figure appears, it was Christine with an evil grin, almost supernatural while holding the iron and fiercely struck Emily several times and killed her and then also Michelle. Lea participated less in the massacre.

Eventually the two sisters hurt each other and take poison and die and all the bodies are found by Mr. Lanchelin in tears.

The film ends with the scene in which two girls identical to Christine and Lea ring the bell to another noble family (this time in Italy) that needs two servants.
