Resume: Brie Larson

Brie Larson began her career with Last Resort Films with unprecedented success. She won the Golden Reel Award for Best Actress in each of the studio's first two seasons for her work on Maria and The Child Martyr. Last season she made her blockbuster debut for the studio in Uncharted, a huge hit that even came away with some awards. In this edition of Resume, we will look at the filmography of this bright star...

Season 1
Maria
Director: Jean-Marc Vallee
Writer: Mo Buck

Budget: $47,000,000
Domestic Box Office: $59,295,022
Foreign Box Office: $52,642,632
Total Profit: $35,977,123

Just the 12th release for Last Resort Films, the project's success put both Larson and writer Mo Buck on the map. Larson won the first Best Actress Golden Reel Award for her performance as a young woman raised on a farm during Colonial times who has a decision to make about which of her three suitors (Alexander Skarsgard, Jake Gyllenhaal and Paul Dano) to settle down with and marry. It became the first in a series of tragic films from Larson, Buck and Vallee.

Season 2
The Fountainhead
Director: Zack Snyder
Writer: Dwight Gallo

Budget: $55,000,000
Domestic Box Office: $67,311,094
Foreign Box Office: $128,078,098
Total Profit: $71,529,775

Larson continued her strong performances in hugely successful dramas with this stylish adaptation of Ayn Rand's novel. Despite strong reviews and a high-profile cast and crew, The Fountainhead was completely ignored come award season.

The Child Martyr
Director: Jean-Marc Vallee
Writer: Mo Buck

Budget: $42,000,000
Domestic Box Office: $66,790,065
Foreign Box Office: $64,625,377
Total Profit: $70,084,275

Following the success of Maria, the main team behind the film quickly re-teamed to make The Child Martyr. While the reviews weren't happy with unrelentingly miserable the story is, clearly the audiences were interested in seeing what Vallee, Buck and Brie came up with this time. Larson won her second Best Actress Golden Reel Award for her performance in this one.

Season 3
Heart of Stone
Director: Jean-Marc Vallee
Writer: Mo Buck

Budget: $39,000,000
Domestic Box Office: $60,402,054
Foreign Box Office: $57,468,177
Total Profit: -$5,876,478

Heart of Stone
was not quite the success that Maria and The Child Martyr were. Financially, the film wasn't a huge bomb (and one has to think that the marketing department simply over-spent). Critically though, this film was not nearly as loved as the trio's prior two works. It is the only film from the trio of Vallee, Buck and Larson to not receive a single Golden Reel nomination, and it made Season 3 the first time Larson was not nominated for Best Actress.

Season 6
Uncharted
Director: Brad Peyton
Writer: APJ

Budget: $162,000,000
Domestic Box Office: $194,244,009
Foreign Box Office: $362,006,066
Total Profit: $145,819,339

Uncharted was a huge hit at the box office, giving Larson the best box office of her career - by far. The chemistry between Larson and her co-star Ryan Reynolds was highly praised, with the two winning the Golden Reel Award for Best Starring Couple - giving Larson the third Golden Reel Award of her young career.

Up Next: As it stands now, Larson will have some time off. Her next film isn't due out until Season 10 (another drama with director Jean-Marc Vallee). She will then appear in the sequel to Uncharted, due out in Season 11.
