The Roundup with Jeff Stockton (Season 7 Round 4)

What a round, am I right? This round has to be considered a huge success for the Last Resort Films community. All three of the released films were very successful at the box office. It's like the writers are trying to make my Bottom Three more difficult to compose. Now for The Roundup....

3. Numero Uno's Lead Trio
The starring trio of Jack Ryder and Shane Black's Numero Uno: Tom Hardy, Chris Hemsworth and Alexander Skarsgard, are all huge stars at the height of their powers. Hardy and Skarsgard obviously have had a ton of success for the studio, while this is only Hemsworth second film for Last Resort Films. They all work great off of each other and have great chemistry. Jack, if you write a sequel, give them more time together!

2. Wyatt Russell in a Lead Role
Wyatt Russell is an actor whose wide range is often underutilized. Not a lot of guys can pull off goofy (22 Jump Street, Everybody Wants Some!!) and menacing (Cold in July, Goon: Last of the Enforcers) with equal aplomb. In fact, one of the only other actors I can think of who can pull it off as well would be his father Kurt. Personally, I don't think the story of Pressing Luck worked entirely as a whole, but Russell was always interesting on screen.

1. Gargoyles' Opening Act
I was not familiar with the animated series Gargoyles is based on, but I certainly wasn't expecting such an intense opening act from something based on a Disney cartoon. What's cooler than watching vikings and gargoyles battle it out?

3. Wasting Benicio del Toro
For a good chunk of the running time, the audience is led to believe Charlize Theron is the villain of Numero Uno, but suddenly Benicio del Toro shows up at the end to be the fight the heroes. Honestly, it felt like a waste of his talent to have that little of screen time. The script should have built him up a little earlier.

2. Numero Uno's Tech Support Team
Ugh, I did not enjoy when the various spies' tech support teams were present. All they did was sidetrack the more interesting aspects of the story. Sure, they help with some exposition, but did every single spy in the film need someone to give them information? Isn't a spy's job to gather information? As an audience member, I wanted to see Hardy, Hemsworth and Skarsgard kick some bad guy ass, not talk to Mila Kunis and Kristen Bell (Michael Pena is less annoying and actually has a relevance in the finale of the film - I actually wouldn't mind him joining the lead trio again in the future)...

1. Gargoyle Robots

Why? The appearance of robots in the finale of Gargoyles not only made no sense, but it was corny as hell. Couldn't Xanatos have made gargoyle robots without having to bring medieval gargoyles back to life? And what was the end game for the robots? Why did Xanatos need to bring ancient gargoyles back to life to steal data to make robotic gargoyles? It's too ridiculous.
