The Roundup with Jeff Stockton (Season 15 Round 4)

This round saw the ninth film in the Halo series released, adding an entry into the studio's longest running franchise. Here's The Roundup....

3. Alexander Skarsgard & Sarah Gadon
The dynamic duo that keeps the Halo series churning. Their chemistry, plus the increasingly solid action sequences, are why I am always interested in seeing a new Halo film.

2. Aubrey Plaza

Aubrey Plaza is a great actress, so it's always nice seeing her getting prominent roles in Last Resort Films releases. I may not have liked the movie (see the Bottom 3), but she was far from one of the issues with the film.

1. Halo 6

The action sequences just keep getting better in each Halo film. Buck clearly has become more comfortable writing action scenes, especially considering that this latest film isn't based on a game.

3. Box Office
Aside from Halo 6, the box office for this round was a complete loss with both other films combining to lose a decent chunk of change.

2. The Cape

Every single character in The Cape was just so unlikable that I didn't care one iota about their fate by the end of the film.
The film had some interesting visual elements, but all of those positive aspects were more than cancelled out by the film's shortcomings.

1. Drugstore Perfume

The details felt wrong right away with this one. The title is a terrible title for a film, especially given that it literally has nothing to do with the plot or characters (and named after a song that is one of the worst on the soundtrack and doesn't have much of a thematic or plot connection to the film). A college student having a wet dream? A couple named Samantha and Sam? Yet ANOTHER McDonald's scene in an Alex Conn script? Seriously, it is distracting every single time and needs to stop, Alex. Besides, since when does someone go to a McDonald's to blow off steam after a fight with a significant other? It felt so out of place. Are Samantha and Sam engaged or married? On top of it all, the soundtrack appears to be further evidence that Alex Conn only knows of like 10 musical artists. With all that said, Alex Conn is a much better writer than the one who showed up in Season 8 with Life of a Champion and Queen Mary. He just still has a habit of focusing on the less important aspects of the projects, and not focusing enough on the actual story.
