Reaction: This film was a fairly risky bet at the box office given its subject matter and genre (both of which are not exactly known for box office prosperity), but thankfully it managed to turn a decent little profit. The big key was that despite the three stars being widely known, none of them demanded very big salaries for this particular project.
"Chris Pine, Sam Rockwell and Nicolas Cage all dive head first into the weirdness of the story from writer James Morgan. While it certainly deals with dark subject matter, the leading trio contribute a unique energy to the film." - Janet Donnelly, Empire Magazine
"Sam Rockwell and Chris Pine are completely believable as brothers routinely finding themselves on the wrong side of the law, sharing get chemistry with one another. Nicolas Cage, meanwhile, chews the scenery, regurgitates it, and chews it back up again with gleeful abandon. I loved it." - Geoff Bray, Slant Magazine
"James Morgan's Of Rocks and Sand would make for a great double-feature with Dwight Gallo's Blackwater. Both feature charming movie stars utterly committing to dark, slimy, violent and at times humorous performances." - Jeff Stockton, The Roundup
