Reaction: This one clearly just cost a little too much. The stars, Ryan Gosling and Jennifer Lawrence, each commanded pretty substantial salaries given their star power. We at the studio were hoping that their star power would help this film up over the hump, but it came up just short of turning a profit.
"I could see some of the twists coming a ways away, but even that didn't keep from enjoying the perfectly cast, well-plotted and engrossing crime drama. Ultimately, the film feels like the glossy Hollywood version of director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's early work, and I don't think that's a bad thing." - Paul Ontkean, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
"The Killings has me hook, line and sinker until it came to the third act, which felt like something out of a different sillier movie. I didn't have a problem with the twist since it was well set up until the end, it just wasn't pulled off with enough tact and came across as a clumsy wrap up." - Justin Rodriguez, Detroit Free Press
"The Killings takes two of Hollywood's brightest young actors and puts them under the direction of a talented director arguably at the height of his powers in the film industry. The star-studded affair works like gangbusters, with Ryan Gosling and Jennifer Lawrence both given interesting, meaty roles to explore with their talents." - Evan Cobb, Tampa Times
