Reaction: Those are honestly some very strong numbers from a film based on a 50 year old novel and not full of major special effects or action scenes. We have to assume that the numbers were helped by the immense star power of lead actor Tom Cruise.
"After many seasons of intense action in the Splinter Cell series, Tom Cruise gives us a more dramatic performance as the calm and cool leader of the crisis team. It can be easy to forget how good of an actor he is when he spends so much time doing crazy stunts in action movies. The rest of the movie is good too." - Tom Lane, Detroit News
"The pace is erratic, but the cast is all game and the tension created by the direction of Joseph Kosinski is palpable. Kosinski, taking a break from Batman movies to re-team with Tom Cruise, is a visual master behind the camera." - Chris Knowles, TV Guide
"Maybe my expectations for The Andromeda Strain were too high. The film is certainly serviceable, but given the pedigree of director Joseph Kosinski, star Tom Cruise and writer Dwight Gallo, I was expecting a masterpiece. They didn't make a masterpiece, but they did make an entertaining thriller." - Glenn Magnus, Maxim
Rated PG-13 for language, scenes of peril and thematic elements
