Gracie: Roy Horne regular Desmond Harrington (Wolf, Poison Ivy) has joined the writer's latest film, the drama Gracie. Also joining the film will be Owen Teague (Maledicta, The Stand) and Jacob Bertrand ("Cobra Kai", The Swap). Teague and Bertrand will play classmates of the title character, played by Sydney Sweeney, while Harrington will play Teague's father. Mark Pellington is directing the film.
Elektra: Sam Heughan ("Outlander", Lock Every Door), Sonoya Mizuno (Tokyo Rose, "Devs") and Shun Oguri (Godzilla vs. Kong, No Longer Human) have all joined the latest Marvel Universe production, Elektra. As many have surmised, Sam Heughan will play Matt Murdock, Elektra's blind former lover who moonlights as the masked vigilante Daredevil. Mizuno and Oguri will play members of The Hand, a top-secret organization of ninja assassins. Zack Snyder is directing the film from a script by Dwight Gallo.
The Betrothed: Hot off his Best Director GRA nomination in Season 20, Martin Scorsese (Sinatra, The Raven in the Night) is set to direct a big screen adaptation of Alessandro Manzoni's historical novel, The Betrothed. The novel tells the story of a young couple in love who face obstacles of war, plague and the ruling class in 17th century Italy. Timothee Chalamet (Atlantis, Should've Been Here) and Katherine Langford (Fear of the Dark, The Virgin Suicides) have been set for the lead roles. Additionally, Cate Blanchett (The Water Cure, For Those Who Don't Read Me) has been cast as Langford's mother and Luke Evans (Mask of the Phantom, Green Lantern Corps) has been cast as the villain of the film, a cruel Spanish nobleman who forcibly seperates the young couple when he finds himself attracted to the young woman. Ben Collins (House Without End, Maledicta) penned the adaptation.
Who Watches the Watchmen: Ian McKellen (The Crow: Wings of Isaiah, Kazaria), Bill Pullman (The Devil's Revenge, Buried Child) and Sharon Stone (Kurt & Courtney: All Apologies, Zoe Maye) have been cast in three of the lead roles in a film sequel to the Watchmen comic series, Who Watches the Watchmen. McKellen will play Adrian Veidt, a dying elderly man who used to be the hero Ozymandias. Pullman will play Dan Dreiberg, the former hero Nite-Owl. Stone meanwhile will play his wife, Laurie, who used to be the heroic Silk Spectre. James McTeigue (Akira, Metal Gear Solid 2) has been tapped to direct the film. Jimmy Ellis (Northrock, The Mobster's Violin) has written the film, based on characters from DC Comics.
Super Grover: Frank Oz (The Stepford Wives, Bowfinger) is set to direct a big screen Sesame Street film, with Grover's superhero alter ego at the center. In a film that is expected to be filled to the brim of Sesame Street Muppets, the film will have at least two Hollywood actors involved: Jim Carrey (Golden Girl, Spark of Madness) and Edward Norton (Triangle, Nation's Pride). They will play the film's villains who hate the concept of kindness. The film was written by Jacob Jones (Gathering of the Wolves, Emergency).
OZ: New writer Jack Brown is set to make his LRF debut with a new fantasy/horror film twist on the world of the Wizard of Oz. Maya Hawke will play a Kansas teenager who finds herself transported to a mysterious and fantastical new world. On her journey she will meet the Tin Man, a samurai who appears to have been put together with spare mechanical parts, played by Hiroyuki Sanada (Fractured, Shogun). She will also meet Leon, a man who can transform into a large monstrous lion, played by Cosmo Jarvis (Calm With Horses, Funny Face). German director Marcus Nispel (Exeter, Pathfinder) is directing the film.
