Reaction: A far cry from the main Batman films in terms of box office, but it still was plenty successful. While based on Batman/DC Comics characters, this film is technically based on an animated series first that only ran for three seasons, so that may have affected the audience's brand awareness a bit.

"Despite his presence in the animated series, it makes logistical sense for the overall DC Comics Universe film series for Bruce Wayne to be absent from these proceedings. Tanner Buchanan pulls off the physicality of his role, even if it is a bit underwritten. The film is efficient, but certainly not spectacular." - Dave Manning, Ridgefield Press

"While Bruce Wayne is a huge hole missing, the future tech isn't that exciting, and the whole thing feels like a pilot to things to come since no one has real character development. Tanner Buchanan shines as Terry and Donald Glover delivers as his Alfred in Jace Fox. After the PCS, I look forward to what Wyatt Allen and Neill Blomkamp has in-store for future installments." - Devin Ă˜ster, Globe and Mail

"Batman Beyond feels like a generic superhero origin story. Outside of the futuristic setting, there isn't much we haven't seen before. And even that future setting doesn't really get utilized much. Tanner Buchanan is fine as the lead here, but he's given a pretty bland character. The action, like the story itself, is light and doesn't utilize what is unique about the story or subject matter. The film was also sorely lacking in the villain department, with Batman essentially fighting a generic henchman in the final battle." - Brenton Smalls, Playboy

Rated PG-13 for action violence
