Reaction: Despite being a smaller drama on the surface, the cast did not come cheap. This led to a higher budget, but also helped draw in just enough of an audience to push this film into profitable territory.

"Open Hearts features a starring cast at the top of its game and a director in Danny Boyle who delivers one of his best films. The film can be very heart-wrenching at times, but it never feels forced. The writing and the performances from the cast make you care for these characters, who all feel incredibly human - which isn't easy." - Brenton Smalls, Playboy

"Roy Horne has perfected a certain formula at this point: foreign language adaptation, relationship melodrama, ethereal soundtrack, etc. For my money, Rebecca Hall is one of the most underrated actresses in the industry so it nice to see her get some shine here. The chemistry between Skarsgard and Olsen is off the charts. And given his own personal experiences, Miles Teller delivers a heart-wrenching performance packed with pathos." - Phil Silva, The Atlantic

"The plot itself is more than a little melodramatic at times, but it somehow all still works. This is a testament to the talent behind and in front of the camera. Skarsgard, Olsen, Teller and Hall all deliver some the finest performances in recent memory. Teller hasn't always come across as the most likable of actors, but he manages to use that to his advantage in the film's trickiest performance. At times you'll hate him, but you'll also feel his pain. I expect to see his name, as well as those of his fellow stars, come up again around GRA season." - Cal Crowe, Washington Globe

Rated R for sexuality/nudity and language
