The Roundup with Jeff Stockton (Season 22 Round 4)

The streak of profitable films continued this round, albeit barely. Here's The Roundup....

3. EarthBound
I didn't love EarthBound, but for writer Joshua Collins it was at least a slight improvement over his first film, Gigantor. The characters are never really given much development and the plot seems too episodic, but I suppose that's the tough part about adapting an RPG video game.

2. Audible
Audible didn't reinvent the inspirational sports drama, but the true story the filmmakers told at least has one extra element (the deaf angle) that most films of its ilk don't have.

1. Box Office
Thrill of the Kill almost blew it, but with its tiny profit the studio has continued its streak of profitable films - now up to 10 in a row now.

3. EarthBound
I know Joshua Collins is still one of the newest writers, but I feel like this film needed an extra draft or two to make it really good. It felt rushed and not fully thought out at times.

2. Box Office
Yes, the studio is having a good run in terms of profitable films, but a lot of the profits are not very big. It looks like some of the later season blockbusters are going to have to do a lot of the heavy lifting.

1. Thrill of the Kill
It's a sloppy story told in a sloppy manner. That's about how I have to say about the actual story. More importantly, can Alex Conn please come up with some new character names? Alex has now named six different characters Tom (including multiple characters played by Alex Wolff), although that pales in comparison to the whopping 15 characters named John. Get a name book, or Google some different names, dude. It's distracting at this point how plain the majority of the names are in Alex Conn projects.
