Plot: A Few Months Ago. Jervis Tetch, aka The Mad Hatter, (Simon Pegg) is on the streets of Gotham causing chaos around every corner with the use of his stopwatch and gas gun. He hypnotises the residents telling them all to cause some mayhem. The residents run in the street and break into buildings. As he walks the streets he falls into rhyme. A figure lands behind him, Batman (Jake Gyllenhaal). He attempts to hypnotise Bruce but his mind is too strong. The Hatter sends in some of his goons dressed as bunnies to attack. Batman easily dispatches of them, The Mad Hatter sprays Grayson with the gas gun, it sends Batman backward for a moment, but he very quickly pushes forward and knocks Tetch out with one punch.
PRESENT DAY
Harley Quinn (Julia Garner) climbs through a window, and sneaks upon somebody sleeping. The person is shown to be Kate Spencer (Yvonne Strahovski). Harley whispers, “You’re going to tell us everything” before grabbing her mallet and knocking Spencer out with it. She grabs the body and throws it out the window.
Eric Needham (John David Washington) walks through the halls of the prison and back into his cell. He hears weird sounds coming from the room and takes an attack stance, ready for anything. In the corner of the room a plunger leaps out toward him and mid air transforms back into Ralph Dibney (Clayne Crawford), Needham punches Dibney as he lands. Shaking his head Needham walks to his bunk and lies down. Dibney holds his face and yells “OW!” toward Needham.
Amanda Waller (Halle Berry) sits in her office. She reads over the portfolio of a man whose name reads REDACTED. She calls out for Sasha Bordeaux (Lea Seydoux) to send in the Unknown Soldier.
The Unknown Soldier (Josh Lucas) enters the office, his head wrapped in bandages and his body in tactical gear, he stands opposite Waller. She demand that he tell her his name. He stands silent. Waller sends him a look. In a quiet voice the Unknown Soldier remarks that she need not know his name, but just his credentials. And those speak for themselves. Waller looks back at the portfolio nodding her head. Bordeaux takes the Unknown Soldier from the room. Once again Waller reads over portfolio’s before coming across Agent Spencer’s, it reads MISSING.
Calm, Harleen Quinzel walks quietly through the halls of Arkham Asylum. A guard buzzes her into the room of one Jervis Tetch. Tetch looks up to Quinzel and smiles, speaking in rhymes and quoting wonderland he tells her that they have sent many psychiatrists to try and “fix” him. Harleen bends and whispers to him, saying they didn’t send him, Joker did. Tetch smiles while also having fear in his eyes. Without a word Quinzel hands Tetch his gas gun, and his iconic top hat, hidden in her briefcase. He smiles as the two walk out of the cell. Guards come running from all directions to apprehend them but they all fall into a trance as Tetch hypnotises them all. Just for fun he sprays a few with the gas gun and they drop to the ground writhing in pain.
Harley enters the Joker’s Funhouse with a blindfolded Tetch. It’s an old amusement park that The Joker is using for his base. The two of them enter a clowns mouth. As they go deeper inside, Joker’s (Caleb Landry Jones) voice can be heard, “My Harley Quinn, my pumpkin pie, did you go out and find the guy.” Tetch chuckles and remarks that Joker sure can rhyme. Joker gets up into Tetch’s blindfolded face. He slowly lifts the blindfold and questions Tetch’s intentions behind that comment. Tetch promises he was being genuine and that he was impressed by the rhymes. A scream is heard in the distance, as both Harley and the Joker smile big.
Waller is on the phone and receives the news that Tetch has escaped Arkham. She says that her department will be on it right away. She hangs up and calls in Bordeaux, she tells her to assemble the task force and to bring the new guys in too. Bordeaux nods and leaves to gather the task force.
Mick Rory (Ben Foster) is brawling in the mess room when two guards inject him with a sleeping agent, he drops to the ground and is dragged away. The man he was brawling with is also injected, as he is dragged away we can see it is Gar Lynns (Karl Glusman).
Waller stands in a meeting room with a seated Dibney (Elongated Man), Needham (Black Spider), Rory (Heatwave), and Lynns (Firefly). The Unknown Soldier stands behind Waller as she speaks. Rory and Lynns stare daggers at one another. Dibney asks Waller about what they are all doing here anyway. Waller says that she has another mission for the team, but they are awaiting new team members to begin the breakdown. As they wait Rory and Lynns remain staring, Dibney commentates over the tension. This leads to Waller hitting Dibney over the head and telling him to shut up, she then turns to Dibney and Lynns and tells them to fight now to get it all out of there systems. Rory and Lynns look to Waller and shrug their shoulders before they stand and begin to brawl.
A knock on the door is heard as two guards along with Sasha Bordeaux bring in two different women. Lynns and Rory are pulled apart. Waller walks to the women, one lady is wearing a bull fighter suit, Waller introduces her as Veronica Lopez, or Azucar (Herizen Guardiola). A former GCPD officer, turned metahuman, here due to killing a murderer, she looks to the team telling them she should come in handy. Waller walks to the other woman, Jivan Shi (Summer Bishil), some call her the hyena. Dibney asks why they call her that, Waller says its because she is a wherehyena. Waller begins slowly stabbing her with a knife, Jivan screams in anguish and suddenly turns into a hyena, she turns to one of the guards and rips off his arms. She turns to Waller and begins growling but Dibney jumps in front of her protecting Waller. The Unknown Soldier aims his gun at Hyena but Waller orders him to stand down. Hyena is injected with something and drops to the ground turning back into her human self. Waller speaks to all of them, telling them what the mission is. Agent Spencer is missing, and they are going to find her. She adds that her tracking chip lost signal near an abandoned amusement park in Gotham. A few of them ask why they can’t get Batman to do this, they say that this is not his fight, he has more important things to tend to. In addition to finding Spencer, an inmate from Arkham Asylum has escaped, Jervis Tetch. If they are to see Tetch they are to bring him in, alive. Lynns asks why they can’t just burn him, Rory nods with approval, Waller looks to him and reiterates, ALIVE. She adds that all of them will follow the lead of the Unknown Soldier. Needham scoffs, “Yeah whatever.” Waller tells them they will head out very soon, so encourages them to get ready.
Joker, Harley and Tetch surround the almost lifeless body of Kate Spencer. Joker has a playing card with a razor built into it that he slices Spencer with, as he laughs. Harley too laughs and holds a mallet dangling it above Spencer. Tetch looks almost opposed to the way they are treating her, Joker sees this and encourages him to have some fun. With a gulp Tetch approaches Spencer with his hat on, he quotes wonderland. Joker tells him what he wants out of Spencer, he wants her to tell them everything about Amanda Waller and her stupid team. Tetch hypnotises Spencer and demand she tell Joker what he wants to know. Spencer begins explaining what Waller’s intentions are. That she wants to control all, she explains that the team are a bunch of misfits, and that they are quite possibly looking for her now. Joker smiles looking to Harley. He looks to Tetch before saying he wants to control her. Joker places an earpiece in Spencer’s ear and Tetch tells her she will do whatever Joker tells her to.
Needham stands next to Azucar awaiting the helicopter. He wonders why Waller would bring in someone like her, with no powers. Suddenly Needham’s thoughts are interrupted as Azucar begins taking to him. He turns to her and asks if she has telepathy. She continues speaking in his head explaining her real story, she killed the man that killed her father, and now she must serve this team once before being released. Apparently finding Tetch is her mission to be released. Needham says that he too wants Tetch. Tetch was actually the boss of the drug dealer that killed his father. Needham wishes her the best of luck before leaving her to her own thoughts.
The team arrive at the amusement park The Unknown Soldier orders the team to sweep the area, they find nothing, no Joker, no Harley, no Tetch. When they reconvene a bloody Spencer walks out of the shadows, she says she got away from her kidnappers. Azucar able to read her mind tells them she is lying. Rory and the flying Firefly aim their guns at her but Azucar tells them to stop, she is not of right mind..
Over the comms Joker tells Spencer to kill herself. Upon hearing this Spencer walks toward Needham. Needham questions what she is doing, she reaches for his gun but his reflexes are too quick, blocking the advance. The others try to intervene but Needham tells them to stay back, he will handle it. The two then fight in hand to hand combat. After a while Needham gets the upper hand and pins her to the ground. He repeatedly asks her what she is doing. With a smile and a tear rolling down her eye, she snatches a gun from his holster and shoots herself in the head. Over comms Waller asks what happened. The Unknown Soldier tells her that Spencer is dead. Waller curses and asks about Tetch, he says that he is nowhere to be seen. Upon seeing the dead body Jivan Shi begins turning into the Hyena. Azucar can sense this and calls out for help, Hyena scratches at her arms. Dibney hearing the cries for help once again stretches out to save her. However, this time Hyena begins whipping him around like a ragdoll. Hyena lets go of Dibney and scratches at her neck, she ends up disabling the bomb. Hyena then runs toward The Unknown Soldier who opens fire, he dodges some of her attacks but his bullets are doing nothing. Heatwave begins blasting Hyena with his heatgun, Dibney tends to Azucar’s wounds. Firefly seeing Hyena attack thinks about letting her kill Rory but he decides that he too will fire his heat gun at her. Heatwave and Firefly continue with the heat and wait for assistance. Hyena continues swinging her arms around trying to hit anything. Eventually The Unknown Soldier and Black Spider join in and begin firing at Hyena, she ends up cowering away, and limping. The team follow her, Hyena turns back into her human form. She drops to the ground and lets out her last breath dying then and there. The Unknown Soldier calls it in to Waller. Needham and The Unknown Soldier have an argument about what more could have been done to prevent this. Needham exclaims that The Unknown Soldier is no leader, he just wants to kill, and it was pretty evident here. Needham walks off. Rory turns to Lynns and tells him he like his style, they should burn more things. The Unknown Soldier turns to them saying they will get that chance when they find The Mad Hatter and his goons. Lynns and Rory smile.
Joker, Harley and Tetch are in fact no longer at the Joker’s Funhouse, but are now at The Mad Hatter’ Lair, the room they are in is similar to that of the tea party in Alice in Wonderland. Joker tells Tetch that they are in need of some backup. Tetch pieces through a few rhymes and says they are on their way. He presses a button on the table.
Through comms Waller tells the team to head to The Mad Hatter’s Lair and to not be too creeped out by the place. Dibney mentions Alice in Wonderland always scared him for some reason. Black Spider would normally be annoyed at this but seems focused on the task at hand.
The team arrive near The Mad Hatter’s Lair, they stop in their tracks when they see dozens of henchmen wearing rabbit masks over their faces. The Unknown Soldier tells everyone to get behind cover and asks Dibney to create a distraction. Dibney turns himself into a carrot, and screams, a few bunnies look over but are more weirded out by a large carrot. Needham kicks Carrot Dibney and tells him to turn himself into something they would take to The Mad Hatter. He runs out on to the road and turns himself into a giant top hat. He then whistles. The last bunny turns and heads over toward them. Once the bunny reaches Dibney, The Unknown Soldier comes and knocks him out. While taking the mask off he tells the team the reason he took down so many people is due to his ability to blend in. So he will infiltrate the lair. He tells Needham that he is in charge of the team, he tells him to keep them safe, safer than he could. The Unknown Soldier puts the rabbit mask on and quickly goes inside the lair. Needham reminds everyone that Waller wants Tetch alive, the henchmen well they can do what they want to them. He tells Dibney to stay by Azucar’s side, she is the key and needs to be kept safe. Dibney turns one hand into a shield and raises his other to salute Needham. He tells Rory and Lynns to have some fun. Needham puts his mask on, “Let’s get to work”
The Joker and Tetch stand before the Rabbits, lined up in 3 lines. The Unknown Soldier joins the line in the back. The Joker tells them that a unit known as Task Force X will be coming to get there boss and they just need a bit of time to get some things done. Joker then tells the men to kill anyone that tries to stop them. Joker smiles as he and Harley walk and skip off respectively hand in hand. The Mad Hatter tells his goons to head off and give them time, this is all they need. As the bunnies head off, The Unknown Soldiers communicates telling them Joker and Harley are behind the breakout. While the other bunnies go off to other positions, The Unknown Soldier tails The Mad Hatter.
Back to the team Dibney turns back around but is stopped from walking back by Azucar. She reminds him why they are here. They need to get The Hatter no matter who else is here. Dibney looks at her and just yells “It’s the Joker!” Azucar tells him to be quiet the two of them hide behind a door but run straight into two ‘bunnies’ both with guns. They aim the guns and shoot at the both of them, Dibney transforms his hand into a shield once again stopping the bullets and rebounding them back into the bunnies. Azucar looks to him thanking him, he states that they need to keep moving.
Hearing the bullets Firefly and Heatwave look to each other smiling, the two of them enter a big meeting room filled with many bunnies and one particularly large top hat. Firefly takes to the sky while Heatwave stays on the ground the two of them use their heat guns and rain fire upon the bunnies. The bunnies shoot their bullets at the two but it just bounces of Firefly’s armour. Heatwave isn’t hit, he just laughs at ‘cooking’ these bunnies. Firefly ends up lighting the top hat on fire. This catches The Mad Hatter’s attention from a room that he, Joker and Harley is in. The Mad Hatter is furious at his top hat being burnt and tells Joker he will be back. The Mad Hatter goes down the stairs, as he does we see The unknown soldier move into the room that Joker was in. With Firefly still in the air The Mad Hatter jumps in front of Heatwave with his stopwatch and hypnotises him. “Tick, Tock, Tick, Tock. Let off some steam, and fight your team.” He clicks his fingers and as quickly as he got there he disappears. Heatwave immediately looks up to Firefly and fires his heat gun at him. This causes Firefly to fly down to the ground asking what that was for. Heatwave punches him in the face and reaches around the back of Firefly disengaging his wings. Firefly knocks Heatwaves gun out of his hand leading to the two of them brawling.
The Black Spider stealthily goes into a room, that is much a like a throne room. While he is in there he hears some bunnies walking by. He whistles and four of them come sprinting in the room. Still hiding behind the throne, the bunnies are looking throughout the room. The Black Spider climbs over the top of the throne and spins mid air while firing from his wrist gauntlet. He shoots down two of them in this motion. The other two begin firing and he matrix style dodges the bullets. He lunges at the smaller of the two and arm drags him to the ground before knocking him out with one punch. The bigger guy grabs The Black Spider by the head and throws him across the room. Obviously this was a bad idea as The Black Spider simply shoots him with the wrist gauntlet. He comms in to the rest of the team asking if everyone is ok. Firefly says that Rory has gone haywire, he needs to blow him up. Waller interrupts saying that she had already tried, something is blocking the signal to the chip.
As Waller says this Heatwave has Firefly pinned down. Firefly tells him he doesn’t want to do this. He grabs a knife from his leg and stabs Rory in the side. He manages to flip Rory over. Rory then kicks him off looking like he doesn’t even feel the pain. He begins charging toward Firelfy, but Firefly slides out of the way grabbing Heatwaves’ heat gun. He aims it toward him, Heatwave once more charges at Firefly, Firefly tells him he is sorry and pulls the trigger burning Heatwave. Azucar runs in the room screaming for him to stop. Heatwave drops to the ground burnt. Azucar runs straight over to him and talks telepathically with him telling him everything will be ok. A single tear runs from Heatwave’s eye followed by a smile. Heatwave dies from burns. Dibney looks on with tears coming from his eyes now. He then walks over to Firefly and begins making his fists bigger and swings at Firefly. He asks him why. At this time The Black Spider to enters the room, just finding out Firefly killed Heatwave.
Suddenly Harley, The Mad Hatter and Joker stand up on a ledge. The Joker has The Unknown Soldier with a blade to his throat. He thanks them all for giving him some time. He then begins to tell them what he did. However Harley begs him to let her tell them. He rolls his eyes and tells her to go ahead. She starts off by saying Mr J is a genius. He had the Mad Hatter hypnotise all of Brideshead through the radio, just to add a little more…chaos. All of the team look to attack, but Joker shakes his finger saying their job is done. He slices The Unknown Soldier’s throat while laughing, then kicks The Mad Hatter down the ledge. The Black Spider shoots up at Joker and Harley but they are already gone. As Joker and Harley walk away Joker presses a detonator, leading to a 5 second countdown coming from different bombs. Dibney immediately stretches his body into a ball and encompasses all of the team including The Mad Hatter. With everyone inside the ball the explosion occurs. After a few moments and the dust settles. Everyone that was inside is slightly burnt but ok. Dibney is on the ground basically flat from melting. Firefly goes off by himself and sits on some stairs. The Black Spider goes on with business grabbing The Mad Hatter and calling it in to Waller. Hatter tries to rhyme but he knocks him out. Waller tells him that she will send someone now, she asks what happened to Joker, he says that that is another mission for another day. Azucar gets down on the level of Dibney. She tries to speak telepathically. She gets into contact with him and asks how he will be. He doesn’t know, he’s never been hit with this much heat. His skin can be seen extremely slowly beginning to reform. Azucar asks everybody to help grab Dibney. Coming from the stairs Lynns helps by folding him over and over again.
Bordeaux arrives to pick up the rest of the team. The Black Spider throws The Mad Hatter in and begins to berate Bordeaux, she simply tells him to take it up with Waller not her. He grabs a tarp and heads back for the Dibney clean-up.
Being let out by Waller, Azucar walks the streets of Brideshead looking for people to help. She manages to void the hypnosis from a few peoples minds, however it takes the toll on her and she can’t continue.
The Black Spider meets with Waller, she tells him that she is looking for someone to lead Task Force X. She wants him to take over. He will be released from prison but needs to take the jobs given to him. He nods his head and tells her he won’t let her down.
Dibney, in hospital, is slowly regaining skin, and reforming. His upper body is now normal size. Bordeaux enters and throws an envelope at him, she says “Congratulations, you’re free” before she leaves. He opens the envelope and reads it. As he reads it a smile forms on his face, followed by a concerned look.
Waller is in her office with Bordeaux, Bordeaux asks her what she will do now. Waller tells her she must find some new meat.
Mid Credit Scene: Waller meets up with The Mad Hatter, she tells him that he didn’t have to make it so hard to be caught. The Mad Hatter tells her that he didn’t know The Joker was the plan. She adds that he wasn’t supposed to be broken out until the day later, but so what The Joker just made plans go off the rails. She asks if he really sent Brideshead into chaos, he adds that only for 48 hours. She then tells him that she rung Lawton, The Secret Six are back.
Post Credit Scene: In a jungle a group of armed men pull a caged shipment. One of the men open the eye holes. Green scaly skin can be seen, the eyes open, they are yellow. CUT TO BLACK
