The Roundup with Jeff Stockton (Season 23 Round 2)

Round 2 is in the books now and it was a mostly successful one featuring an early season awards contender. Here's The Roundup....

3. Animated Films
While I didn't much care for Bringing About Discord, I do appreciate Jacob Jones' continued efforts to have animated films in LRF.

2. Box Office
There weren't any big hits this round, but at least all three films managed to turn a profit.

1. Haven
Haven was definitely tough to define genre-wise, but it is such a well made film that it overcomes any problems that could arise from that genre confusion. Stiller has recently shown himself to be a good director in television recently and he brings that string of strong work to Haven. It certainly helps though that the cast - especially himself, Chastain, Cruise and Schnapp - showed up to do good work.

3. N/A

2. Bringing About Discord
This one just was not for me. In fact, it's probably my least favorite of Jacob Jones' animated efforts. It felt really long, none of the characters really pulled me in and its story felt way too "low-concept" for an animated film.

1. RoboCop Versus The Terminator
The film isn't unwatchable by any means. It was a disappointment to me though. Its concept is great, but it didn't stick the landing with anything other than Patrick Wilson as RoboCop and the T-K9. The rest felt unrealized and like wasted potential.
