Hail, Caesar (Part III)! Here's The Roundup....
3. Adam Sandler
I didn't love the structure of Death of a Comic, but it was still a good film overall. It wouldn't have worked at all though without a committed performance from Sandler, who gave one of his finer performances (probably just below Punch Drunk Love and Uncut Gems in my book).
2. John Malone & Chad Taylor
The fact that they were able to write such a trilogy as Caesar is impressive already, but their ability to keep the momentum and development going so strong over all three films is incredibly impressive.
1. Caesar Part III
Even more so than the first two Caesar films, I have to say that Caesar Part III is a masterpiece. Easily a top 5 or 10 film in LRF history. I expect the film to dominate come GRA season.
3. GRA Contenders (Not Caesar Part III)
Good luck to the other GRA contending films (which there aren't too many yet) going up against Caesar Part III.
2. Box Office
If it weren't for Caesar Part III this round would have been one of the worst in recent memory with the other two films each losing over $30 million. It's obvious why both films lost money though: Death of a Comic was obviously too expensive for its genre, while The Mars Room flat out didn't find an audience.
1. The Mars Room
I fail to see what it is about the story that made not one, but two LRF writers think it was film worthy. I suppose the main character is an interesting one, but the way the story is told makes it devoid of dramatic tension and the multitude of supporting characters all bleed together.
