The Roundup with Jeff Stockton (Season 28 Round 7)

All three films were good and all three films made some money. Here's The Roundup....

3. Victims
I found the main character played by Michael B. Jordan incredibly difficult to relate to or even care about (more on that below), but overall Victims was well-written. If Donald Glover's or Zoe Kravitz's characters were given more to do in more of a protagonist capacity, it could have worked a bit better since their characters work a lot better and are easier to care for. The writing, aside from making Jordan's character too unlikable, was good though (good plotting and supporting characters throughout).

2. Thorne
Tom Hardy's journey from Navy man to pirate was really well done. I could picture the action very clearly between the talent on screen, Jennifer Kent's direction and Jimmy Ellis' script. They all clearly cared about the journey of the their characters. I have one big nitpick (more below), but it was still a good film.

1. The Untitled Paul Nichols Project
The Untitled Paul Nichols Project is easily Eisenberg's best LRF role yet, and one that he nails completely. Wyatt Allen's script works well to his strengths, which is in sharp contrast with Eisenberg's previous LRF roles that didn't really suit him well.

3. Thorne
Good movie. But I do think that Benicio del Toro's villainous pirate  needed to be established much sooner if the filmmakers wanted us to care about the battles in the last third of the film.

2. Michael B. Jordan
He's always been best at playing angry characters, albeit ones with justifiable, relatable anger. Victims pushed that too far, resulting in an incredibly unpleasant, petulant character impossible to care for.

1. Box Office
Yes, this one is in both sections too. While it is always good that all three films made a profit, this is the second straight round (and third round this season) that has failed to produce a film that made $100+ million at the domestic box office.
