Reaction: Thankfully this one didn't cost very much, so it didn't lose very much. Sometimes horror movies find an audience and sometimes they don't and it is hard to always tell what does the trick. Amityville pulled it off, Flames did not.

"While the movie does effectively deliver some brief moments of intense fear, it really could have benefitted from additional rewrites to tighten up the story and develop the characters a little bit. Although Flames presents a few intriguing concepts, their impact is lessened as the overall outcome falls short of expectations due to the lack of clarity and character development." - Rebra Colemon,  Metro Newspaper (UK)

"Flames simply doesn't do anything to make it stand out from the hundreds of other bargain bin horror films released every year. The characters are under-written and the story was lacking in original scares and thrills - and that's really the most important thing in horror, which this film was missing." - Willa Pulaski, Salon.com

"I'm done with these 'trip to the woods gone wrong' horror films. It's just not a good enough or original enough set-up for a horror film. Flames does start to get better around the midway point of the film, but I feel like those beats should have come earlier and then gone further than the story did. It was a bit of too little, too late, which is a shame as I have liked the majority of writer Andrew Doster's horror projects over the seasons." - Paul Onkean, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Rated R for bloody violence and language
