Reaction: It's never a good sign if a film cannot manage to muster even $20 million worldwide at the box office. Due to its failure to find an audience, The Pull of the Stars has become the biggest flop of the Season 28 so far, despite its fairly modest budget.
"Overlong and boring is how I would describe this film, I found it almost a chore to sit through this film. It is again, a typical novel adaptation from LRF, something needs to change with them. Not every aspect of the book needs to make its way into the story here. The performances were fine, and casted quite well, however, the editing and writing seemed to be a bit all over the place." - Terry Setev, The Bateau Gazette
"The Pull of the Stars is yet another lifeless novel adaptation. The film is sorely lacking in energy, with everything downtrodden and slow from the start. Even the talented ladies that lead the cast here are not able to inject any life or personality into their characters. If this film is anything like the novel, I'm not sure anyone could have made a compelling film adaptation." - Dave Manning, Ridgefield Press
"The Pull of the Stars clearly wants to be an emotional epic, but the script is too slovenly faithful to the novel. The story moves at a snail's pace. The direction by Claire Denis and the writing by Hardcastle and JoLove cannot figure out how to maintain momentum anytime the story builds some up." - Leslie Vandergort, Minneapolis Star Tribune
Rated R for heavy thematic material
