Reaction: Deathstroke comes in as the second lowest grossing DC Comics Universe film in LRF history. But thanks to its modest budget, it actually turned out to be quite profitable.
"Deathstroke delivers intense fight sequences but struggles with character development at times. JCVD plays to his strengths in Deathstroke with brutal fight sequences and a gruff but sensitive demeanor. I liked the simple efficiency of the story, with the story moving at a quick pace to get us from one bloody action scene to another. The film was also a welcome return of action maestro John McTiernan, who has clearly not lost any skill despite his personal troubles and time away from the game." - Glenn Howard, Total Film
"Though I know it's taken a lot from its clear inspirations which doesn't completely let it do something new. Jean-Claude Van Damme brings a cool vibe to work as one of DC’s most iconic characters. The film has action aplenty and to be honest, it saves it all from being too familiar." - Avery Wendell, IGN
"The straightforward revenge narrative of Deathstroke misses out on potential deeper exploration of Slade's motivations and relationships. The action choreography is top-notch, but the film's pacing and lack of emotional resonance made Deathstroke a visually thrilling yet hollow experience. Jean-Claude Van Damme does well in the action scenes, but struggles with the more emotional ones (what few there are), while Mickey Rourke's Wintergreen is menacing but underutilized. If you're in the mood for a mindless revenge film, this is right up your alley, but if you want something with a bit more depth, then this is not the film you're looking for." - Charlie Sage, HBC-TV
Rated R for strong violence, gore, and language
