Reaction: Klitih has become the first profitable directorial effort from writer/director Meirad Tako in his sixth try. It is also the first NC-17 film released by LRF to break even (Meirad Tako also penned the other NC-17 film, The Cry of the Night Lady).

"An honestly brutal and violent film, this movie is driven by Tako's vision. It's a daring attempt that doesn't always land its punches as intended. However, the mere fact that such a film was made is an accomplishment, even though it sometimes indulges a bit too much. Side note: If you have a weak stomach, it's best to avoid this one." - Edith Moss, Times (UK)

"Obviously the language barrier is a slight problem with a film like this, however once you get over it and read the subtitles the film is visually pleasant, while the subject matter is not. Alwi’s progression in the story felt rushed and a few of the twists left me unsatisfied, however it didn’t fully take me away from the story. Not as good as Meirad’s previous Indonesian films, 1965 & If We Know the Right Way, however it leads me to wanting more from them." - Robert Clapton, The New York Times

"Klitih: A Way of Life is a terrifying drama of youth run violently amuck in the seemingly picturesque Indonesia. Meirad Tako's latest film takes a little while to get going, but once Alwi crosses paths with 'FriendlyUser' things take a rapid, fascinating, chillingly violent turn. This film is career-best work from Tako that I fully expect to get some serious GRA consideration in the Best Original Story category." - Dave Manning, Ridgefield Press

Rated NC-17 for graphic violence, disturbing thematic content, sexuality and language
