Star Power Index: Top 20 Franchises

The Star Power Index was created by a team of data analysts, who have examined the LRF careers of many Hollywood stars to determine their current level of star power. This rating has taken into account only their LRF roles and has taken into consideration many different factors: starring roles, box office success, critical acclaim, GRAs, recency of their success (the more recent the better), etc.

In honor of Season 30, this special edition SPI is on franchises. In order to be eligible for this list, a franchise must have at least two entries, at least one film since Season 20, and appear to be ongoing. Some franchises (such as Poison Ivy) have been left off with their future status unclear. Without further adieu…

20. The Crow (78.5)

Arguably one of LRF’s more interesting franchises to this point. It has never been big on profits but every film has had a new lead and has now successfully transitioned writers to its highest profits yet (plus a nice little GRA Best Actress nomination to go with it).

19. Swamp Thing
18. The Fall Guy
17. Gears of War
16. Jack Brown’s Horror Remakes (82.4)

This is a franchise that has been gaining steam of late, particularly after the reception to Amityville and the adjacent success of The Crow: Midnight Garden. There seems to be a general buzz to the announcement of a new Jack Brown horror film, similar to how The Creature franchise succeeded in LRF’s early days.

15. Teen Titans
14. Plastic Man
13. Uncharted
12. Task Force X
11. The Punisher
10. Fantastic Four and Silver Surfer
9. X-Men (90.2)

The X-Men franchise is an odd franchise for LRF in that it is certainly successful but feels like it is a clear step below some of the bigger comic brands above it. That could be in part due to its ensemble nature, although it does have the success of its spin-offs as something in its corner. The franchise is about to face a major test after the sudden news of Alex Garland’s retirement and the last-minute hire of Miguel Sapochnik in his place.

8. Wonder Woman
7. Namor the Sub-Mariner
6. Spider-Man
5. Green Lantern Corps.
4. Booster Gold
3. Superman (97.1)
2. Batman (99.6)
1. James Bond (100 –)

Superman holds a slight edge over his DC compatriots right behind, even though Exile took a slight dip in profits (due in part to rising budgets). That film teased the upcoming Justice League film and his addition seems to be central to the new team-up’s marketing so stocks are going up. Batman has perhaps been LRF’s most consistent franchise in LRF, with a new blockbuster entry roughly every 5 seasons. But Bond holds the crown, having both major profits and two Best Picture trophies.
