Reaction: Fragments of War is the second sizable flop in a row for writer Ben Collins following Becoming Carole Lombard's $30 million loss last season. Collins will have another chance later this season to turn things around with a film due out in Round 8.

"Fragments of Heart plays a little too close to cliche at times, the supporting characters are under-developed and the pacing feels quite clunky for long stretches of the film's running time. That said, the excellent romantic chemistry between Harris Dickinson and Thomasin McKenzie helps make up for the vast majority of the shortcomings of Ben Collins' script." - Dave Manning, Ridgefield Press

"James Gray's Fragments of Heart is a visually stunning war drama featuring intense battlefield scenes and a strong romance at the heart of led by Thomasin McKenzie and Harris Dickinson. I would have liked to get to know the supporting ensemble a bit more, although good casting helps build at least a tad of familiarity with the audience by casting actors who can work with what little there is on paper." - Mark Brown, Austin American-Statesman

"The performances of Dickinson and McKenzie, complemented by Sarah Paulson's silently powerful supporting role, stand out in James Gray's film, which thoughtfully addresses the rehabilitation of wounded soldiers and their caregivers. However, the film succumbs to clichés, diluting its unique perspective and opting for simplistic resolutions to complex themes."- Rebra Colemon,  Metro Newspaper (UK)

Rated R for war violence, disturbing images, sensuality and some language
