Reaction: Very strong numbers for a period piece biopic. It has in fact become the highest grossing film in the Biography genre for the film, toppling Rasputin, which had the top spot in the genre since Round 1 of Season 1.

"The story is interesting enough, covering a period of Montgomery Clift's life many probably don't know much about - but where this film truly excels is in the casting of its lead trio. Phoenix brings a troubled energy to the role of Clift, Hendricks brings a fragile sensuality to the role of Monroe, and Clooney brings the kind of movie star charm that can't be faked to the role of Gable." - Tim Greer, L.A. Weekly

"It's been a while since director Gus Van Sant has made a strong Hollywood-level film (Milk back in 2008), but thankfully Misfit felt like a strong return to form for the filmmaker. It shows that with the right cast and the right script, he is still capable of making high quality films." - Jon Farrell, Hollywood Reporter

"Show-biz biopics can always be a little tricky, but this one has a strong focus surrounding the tumultuous making of The Misfits. The scenes between Phoenix and Hendricks are great, with each managing to display the raw vulnerability necessary for their roles." - Geoff Bray, Slant Magazine

Rated R for language, some sexual content and thematic elements
