Reaction: While not a huge hit, the box office performance of Winter's Displeasure is a huge improvement over the performance of writer Eden Townsend's first film, What We Were Promised.
"This film plays out like an anti Lovestruck. Sex is a big theme but it doesn’t consume the characters’ thoughts and goals. It helps that the cast is very well written, including Herb who might be one of the more developed protagonists I’ve seen in a while. It’s clear a lot of time and energy went into this film and that has to be praised." - Mitchell Walker, New York Times
"None of the residents of Spruce Garden felt old enough to be living there. It might seem like a mostly minor detail, but it completely derailed the film, in my opinion. Are we really supposed to believe that 69 year-old ACTION STAR Liam Neeson is really retirement home material? And that's just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the oddly young-skewing casting. The story itself wasn't a bad one, but casting issues like that sullied everything." - Dave Manning, Ridgefield Press
"Who is interested in an American Pie for the geriatric set? With its sophomoric, Porky's-esque sex humor and retirement home setting, Winter's Displeasure might be one of the most strangely conceived films I've come across in some time. It's definitely not a bad film - in fact, it has some good laughs at times - but I do have mixed feelings on the concoction onscreen." - Gregory Fletcher, Los Angeles Times-Journal
Rated R for sexual content and language
