Reaction: Quite the box office performance for Taylor Kitsch's directorial debut. Similar to Billy Magnussen's Free Spirit, this film continues a solid trend for Kitsch's ability to open a film in theaters (as long as you don't count Floyd Monroe...)

"Taylor Kitsch's Knievel is a fast-moving, fun-loving tribute to the man, the myth and the legend. Kitsch is very much front and center in this one, doing almost all the heavy lifting himself. The supporting cast do good work, but they're not given a ton to do. Not the most groundbreaking of biopics, Knievel is at least a good time at the movies." - Brenton Smalls, Playboy

"Taylor Kitsch gets to shine in the best leading role of his career to date as the cocky and fearless Evel Knievel. He does a great job of conveying the sheer determination of the man. He is aided by the beautiful Melissa Benoist who similarly gives a career best performance as his supportive wife. Knievel turned out to be a solid biography of the pop culture icon." - Dave Manning, Ridgefield Press

"Knievel feels far too interested in the events and feats of the daredevil's career and not nearly interested enough in figuring out what makes the man tick. The title role is a good match for the talents of leading man Taylor Kitsch, but it the script never dug beneath the surface of the complicated man." - Cal Crowe, Washington Globe

Rated PG-13 for language and some violence
