Reaction: Very strong numbers for this horror film. Maledicta is now writer Ben Collins' second horror hit in a row (following last season's Photographs). He also has a horror film due out next season, so we'll see if he can make it three in a row.
"Madison Iseman gives a dark, star-making turn in Maledicta. She carries the film with her performance, starting out as sweet and innocent before taking a dark, frightening turn. Adam Wingard's return to the horror genre was welcome as he keeps things the tension amped up throughout the film." - Brenton Smalls, Playboy
"Maledicta is certainly gruesome but keeps you under its spell thanks to the measured guidance from Wingard and breakout work from Iseman, who is quietly growing into a young star to watch in LRF. Given the ending, it feels like there is still some food left on the table, so to speak, and I’d happily eat those leftovers (hopefully with some more to do for the great Toni Collette)." - Michael St. Felix, The Charlotte Observer
"I found myself questioning the plot and the actions of the characters a bit more than usual - even for a horror film. The climax almost saved the whole movie, but the first two-thirds or so of the film was simply too much of a head-scratcher with the characters and the plot all too enigmatic for their own good - and for the good of the audience." - Cal Crowe, Washington Globe
Rated R for graphic bloody violence
