The Roundup with Jeff Stockton (Season 21 Round 7)

The studio had a bit more box office success this round. Let's discuss that and more in The Roundup....

3. DC Comics Universe
I didn't realize it coming into this round, but Atlantis is now the 46th film in the DC Comics Universe. And if I have my information correct, by the end of next season we will have hit #50.

2. Maledicta
Maledicta turned out to be a solid little horror film. The actions of the characters didn't always make sense (granted, that is common in horror films) but the film is led ably by Madison Iseman (continuing her successful season) and it has some scary, gory moments once it gets going.

1. Horror Films
I'm honestly surprised that more writers don't submit horror films to the studio. While they are not going to have as much of a box office ceiling as the latest superhero blockbuster, horror films have a high chance to turn a profit and some can break out like Maledicta did.

3. Atlantis
I certainly didn't hate Atlantis, but I also didn't find it particularly exciting. The action was kind of bland and the characters spent most of their time talking of underwater politics that were not very entertaining. Maybe my expectations were too high. If there's a sequel, hopefully there's more action and urgency and less Atlantean chit-chat.

2. Timothee Chalamet
Timothee Chalamet is more and more coming across like he has no actual charisma. His brooding act is wearing thin with this audience member. I'd like to see something different from him, but I'm not sure that will ever happen.

1. Blue is the Warmest Color
This film was quickly crippled by unlikable characters and a lack of chemistry from its performers. Almost nothing there characters do in this film makes any sense. It felt like a romance film made by people who have never been in relationships. I also must say that the sex scene in this film somehow managed to feel even more gratutitous than the one in the French original, or at least much less tasteful.
