Plot: During the Crusades, Robin of Locksley awaits his execution in a jail cell with two other so-called "war criminals": a mute Moorish soldier Robin has nicknamed "Little John" (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje) and a captured Saracen assassin named Nasir (Riz Ahmed). When the guards open the cell to take Robin to be hanged, he attacks the guards, and defeats them despite being outnumbered. Robin invites Little John and Nasir to come along on his escape. The three manage to fight their way out of the castle and steal some horses. Little John and Nasir decide to tag along with Robin as he heads back to England.
In England, with King Richard away overseeing the Crusades, the cruel Sheriff of Nottingham (Dominic West) rules over the land Robin grew up in. The Sheriff is aided by his right-hand man Guy of Gisborne (Jonathan Rhys Meyers). In the center of town, they come across the Sheriff announcing the execution of Will Scarlett, Robin's nephew, for his refusal to pay taxes. Just as Will drops through the trap door, Robin uses his bow and arrow to shoot the rope. Will races through the crowd and hops on the back of Robin's horse as Robin and his "Merry Men" flee into the Sherwood Forest. On his way out of town, he is spotted by his childhood sweetheart, Marian (Hayley Atwell).
Robin, Will, Little John and Nasir hide out in a ravine in the woods. When they spot a caravan carrying the collected taxes from town, they decide to attack and rob the soldiers transporting it. When they return to their hideout, they find Marian waiting for them. Robin shows her the gold they just stole from the Sheriff's soldiers and asks her to distribute it throughout Nottingham to those who need it.
Back in Nottingham, Marian visits Friar Tuck (Daniel Bruhl) at the local church and recruits him to help her distribute the stolen wealth among the poor. Robin and his men continue to rob the Sheriff's tax collection caravans. Guy of Gisborne catches Marian and Friar Tuck with the stolen wealth and takes them to the Sheriff at Nottingham Castle.
Learning of Marian and Tuck's capture, Robin and his men infiltrate Nottingham Castle. After a fierce fight, Will kills Guy and Robin kills the Sheriff, while Little John and Nasir free Marian and Friar Tuck.
Robin and Marian profess their love for each other and marry in the forest, officiated by Tuck.
