Resume: Bryan Cranston

Bryan Cranston was a late bloomer to movie stardom, but he paid his dues on television for years, before hitting it big. He has become one of the most demanded talents in the world of Last Resort Films, already appearing in six films for the studio, albeit all supporting roles. In this Resume segment, we look at the filmography of the ultra-talented actor.

Season 2
Blood Meridian
Director: Jeremy Saulnier
Writer: Dwight Gallo

Budget: $67,000,000
Domestic Box Office: $43,749,080
Foreign Box Office: $54,621,877
Total Profit: -$5,438,685

The brutal western Blood Meridian featured Cranston as an ex-priest who has turned to a life of crime despite his religious beliefs. He was part of the immensely talented ensemble cast of the film that was nominated for 7 Golden Reel Awards (including a nomination for Best Ensemble Cast). It won the awards for Best Villain (Russell Crowe) and Best Production Design.

Season 3
Gorky Park
Director: Brian De Palma
Writer: Lon Charles

Budget: $40,000,000
Domestic Box Office: $38,464,034
Foreign Box Office: $35,242,189
Total Profit: -$31,212,398

Cranston played the villain in this box office bomb, the murderous fur trader Jack Osborne. The film scored fairly well with critics (including for Cranston's performance), but could not find a big enough audience.

American Outlaws
Director: Paul Thomas Anderson
Writer: Seth Overton

Budget: $67,000,000
Domestic Box Office: $75,485,067
Foreign Box Office: $43,238,661
Total Profit: $1,885,295

Another big ensemble cast featuring strong work from Cranston, who played part of a robbery crew in Paul Thomas Anderson's western. This film was also nominated for Best Ensemble Cast. So yet again, Cranston is part of Golden Reel Award-nominated Ensemble Cast - and in another western at that.

Season 4
Batman: Gotham Knight
Director: Joseph Kosinski
Writer: APJ

Budget: $210,000,000
Domestic Box Office: $339,119,022
Foreign Box Office: $356,298,525
Total Profit: $211,564,363

Cranston's biggest film yet - and until the release of Mass Effect 2 was the bighest budgeted film in the history of the studio. Cranston plays Gotham Police Captain Jim Gordon in the blockbuster. It's not the biggest role in the world, but it is one that will continue in any number of Batman films.

Season 5
Ringer
Director: Scott Derrickson
Writer: Dwight Gallo

Budget: $53,000,000
Domestic Box Office: $54,347,046
Foreign Box Office: $60,013,121
Total Profit: -$2,787,025

Another smaller role for Cranston, who is still waiting for his first starring role in a Last Resort Films release. In Ringer, he played Bradley Cooper's military superior who gets murdered by Cooper's evil clone. The film was not successful at the box office, despite the respectable reviews.

Season 6
Uncharted
Director: Brad Peyton
Writer: APJ

Budget: $162,000,000
Domestic Box Office: $194,244,009
Foreign Box Office: $362,006,066
Total Profit: $145,819,339

Bryan Cranston reteams with writer APJ for another supporting role in a huge blockbuster as the Victor "Sully" Sullivan, the mentor to Ryan Reynolds' treasure hunter Nathan Drake. This time around, he is given a lot more work to do - and once again, Sully is a role that would continue with sequels, which will keep Cranston very busy for the foreseeable future.

Up Next: Bryan Cranston will next co-star in Life on Mars as Bradley Cooper's aggressive 1970s police superior later this season. His next film after that will be the sequel to Batman: Gotham Knight.
