Made in Abyss: Ben Whishaw (Spectre, A Hologram for the King) and Mackenzie Foy (Lullabies for Little Criminals, The Child Martyr) have signed on to finish out the cast of Peter Jackson and Seth Overton's manga adaptation Made in Abyss.
Reality: Tessa Thompson (Creed, Thor: Ragnarok), Shannon Woodward ("Westworld", All Nighter), Skyler Samuels ("Scream Queens", "The Gifted") and Michael Sheen ("Masters of Sex", Brad's Status) have joined Andy Muschietti's first film for Last Resort Films. The Andrew Doster-penned project follows survivors living in a post-apocalyptic world.
Heavy Rain: Adam Wingard (The Guest, Death Note) has signed on to direct an adaptation of the video game Heavy Rain for Last Resort Films. The Dwight Gallo-adapted story follows the search for a missing child kidnapped by the "Origami Killer". Jake Gyllenhaal (A Farewell to Arms, Batman: Gotham Knight) will play the father of the missing child, Elizabeth Olsen (Bonnie and Clyde, Atlantic City) will play a journalist who helps him, while Michael Shannon (Hated: The Ballad of GG Allin, The Informers) will play a private detective looking for evidence on the Origami Killer.
The Two Souls: Ryan Reynolds (Uncharted, Deadpool 2) isn't done this season after Uncharted. He has signed on to headline the sci-fi project, The Two Souls. Brian Tee (Shogun, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows) and Karen Fukuhara (The Beatles, Dead Space) will also star in the project. Tee will play a dying Japanese soldier chosen to control a super humanoid body - played by Reynolds. The film will be the solo film directing project of Lana Wachowski (Jupiter Ascending, Cloud Atlas), who will direct from a script by Meirad Tako (Drake).
Standing Back: Andrew Garfield (Hacksaw Ridge, American Playboy) and Emily Blunt (A Quiet Place, And Then There Were None) have signed on to star in Tom Hooper's (The Danish Girl, Jack the Ripper) next film, a drama about a soccer player recovering from a serious injury. Garfield will star as the injured player, while Blunt will play his love interest. Jack Ryder wrote the script.
Scion: Chad Taylor (Booster Gold, Bonnie and Clyde) and John Malone (Death Dream, To the White Sea) have written the first collaboration between Last Resort Films writers, an epic science fiction film about a scientist who takes to the stars in order to keep the human race alive. Jeff Nichols (Midnight Special, Loving) will make his debut for the studio on the project. Russell Crowe (Lancelot, Blood Meridian) will headline the big-budget production as the scientist who will do whatever it takes to keep humanity alive on a new planet. Kirsten Dunst (Flicker, Blackwater) will play his wife who accompanies him on the journey.
