Domestic Box Office: $5,099,450
Foreign Box Office: $1,107,369
Total Profit: -$12,009,731

Reaction: Lovestruck has become the second lowest grossing film in the history of LRF, which obviously made it tough to turn a profit. The film was not an easy one to market - basically unknown stars and a lack of marketable genre material. At least it didn't cost very much...

"A promising start is derailed quickly when William makes a joke about Amanda...ahem, 'sucking off' to others. It all goes to hell soon after as William proves to be one of the most unlikable characters I've ever seen. The final blow? A suicide attempt out of nowhere. A truly unpleasant experience all around." - Mitchell Parker, New York Times

"If the character inconsistencies and lack of plot weren't enough to make the film a rough viewing, Lucas Jade Zumann comes onto the scene playing perhaps the most unlikable character in film history - and he's supposed to be the protagonist!" - Dave Manning, Ridgefield Press

"The story of Lovestruck appears to be about a 20-year-old high schooler who is also a professional filmmaker. And on top of that, the 'hero' of the story, William Dane, has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. He treats everyone around him poorly and shows absolutely zero growth or development during the 'story' on display." - Michael Wilmington, Rolling Stone

Rated R for some offensive language, crude sexual images, and thematic material - all involving minors

Terwon then is picked up by his mom and William just stays in his room crying. The film then cuts to Amanda graduating and cross cuts between William crying and Amanda and her friends at the graduation party. Terwon is even at the graduation party.

Terwon texts William about the graduation party and Terwon admits that he went to Amanda’s graduation party and William is incredibly mad and Terwon said that he had to go or else his mom would kill him. William hangs up the phone. William then attempts suicide but he decides to just go watch a movie. This movie is Place Beyond The Pines it is a revival show at an art house theater and it is really emotional for him. William then finishes the screenplay and sends it off to the studio. Budget: $41,000,000
Domestic Box Office: $11,975,447
Foreign Box Office: $12,369,716
Total Profit: -$36,139,019

Reaction: The poor box office showing of this film continues Ang Lee's box office woes. This one had a lot working against it financially - especially the relatively high budget and lack of bankable actors.

"What We Were Promised is too busy and too disjointed. It's not uncommon for a film to be made of a novel that just doesn't work as a filmic story, and that is certainly the case with Ang Lee's adaptation." - Clark Davis, JoBlo.com

"Based on the talented cast and director, as well as the acclaim of the source material, I was expecting something special. Perhaps my expectations were too high, because this film did not work for me at all. What little actual story there was didn't grab my attention, and it was frequently convoluted." - Perry Manson, CinemaBlend.com

"Some stories just don't work as a film. The plotting is far too loose and far too many characters serve little to no purpose. There are some interesting cultural elements present in the film, but unfortunately for the filmmakers cultural elements alone cannot make a film work." - Charles Yost, Oregonian

Rated PG-13 for some sexual content and thematic elements

Based on the novel by Lucy Tan
Cast: Constance Wu, Pom Klementieff, Henry Golding, Steven Yeun, Chow Yun-Fat, Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, Daniel Wu, Gemma Chan, Choi Min-sik, Michelle Yeoh, Manny Jacinto, Lewis Tan

Plot: In 1988, a young man and woman named Lina (Constance Wu) and Wei (Henry Golding) left Shanghai for a new life in America. It’s seen as a land of dreams and the future, and this rural-born Chinese couple is both nervous and excited about the changes to come.

Moving forward in time to 2010, a quiet, diligent, widowed woman from a rural village named Sunny (Pom Klementieff) works as a maid in a charming hotel in Shanghai called the Lanson Suites. Later in the day, She and her co-worker, Rose (Gemma Chan), are accused of stealing a bracelet from one of the taitai (housewives) that they clean for. Secretly, they resent the women they work for, who can be pretentious, lazy, and bossy. It turns out that the residents are Lina and Wei, who’s returned to Shanghai after living in America for about 15 years.

Wei now works as a marketing executive for an American firm, Medora, in Shanghai. As an ex-pat, he has many privileges that come with the job, such as expense-free lodgings in the luxurious Lanson Suites. Medora is hosting a reality TV show contest to attract new, young applicants and to garner publicity. Wei feels like a sell-out and is embarrassed by the celebrity he has gained. He is proud of the security he can provide for his family, but he is also worried that his wife may be bored by her life as a taitai. But at the same time, Wei suspects she may like the life of luxury. One night, Wei receives an unexpected phone call from his younger brother, Qiang (Steven Yeun), who he has not heard from in more than 20 years. Qiang is coming to visit them for the upcoming World Fair Expo.

Meanwhile, Lina spends her days in a daze with no work or purpose. While in America, Lina worked full-time as a teacher, but now she goes to breakfasts, swims in the apartment’s pool, goes shopping, volunteers, acts as a hostess, and supports her husband. She is upset because one of her bracelets has gone missing and believes one of the housemaids must have stolen it. Their 12-year-old daughter Karen (Aubrey Anderon-Emmons), who attends a boarding school in America, is home for the summer. She thinks that it may be a good idea to hire an ayi (like a nanny or an au pair) for the summer to be her companion and to take the pressure off of Lina so she could be a good host for Wei’s brother. She is nervous for Qiang’s visit and has flashbacks of her early years with Wei, while she was, unbeknownst to her husband, thinking wistfully of his brother. For the 22 years since he disappeared, Lina has harbored Qiang’s hidden feelings and now believes that he is coming not for the Expo but for her. Turns to Sunny, and Karen excitedly tells her that her parents think she is innocent of the bracelet theft and wants to hire her as an ayi. When Lina makes the proposal, she offers to double Sunny’s wages.

Back in time to Lina’s teenage years, The circumstances leading up to her arranged marriage with Wei, such as how she was raised with the knowledge that she would marry the promising young son of her father’s dearest friend one day. On the one hand, she liked the certainty that being betrothed to the most eligible boy gave her, but on the other hand, she’s bored of her hometown and wanted the adventure of a new experience and new friends. During the years leading up, she developed a familiarity with Wei’s younger brother Qiang.

Returns to the present and turns to Wei as he nervously anticipates his long-lost brother’s arrival. Wei wakes early and dresses for work, and heads to the clubhouse at Lanson Suites for breakfast. He realizes with embarrassment that it is Saturday and sits down to dine with several other fellow ex-pats and corporate executive men, and Lina joins him later. Turns to Sunny, who is texting her mother and her sister, who, unlike her, is married and pregnant. Despite her hesitations, Sunny decides to take Lina’s job offer and heads to Lanson Suites to accept. Rose texts her saying that her schedule has changed, and Sunny is worried about her friend, who will now become the prime suspect for the bracelet theft because of Sunny’s promotion. They meet for lunch the next day, and Sunny discovers that it was, in fact, Rose that stole the bracelet, out of resentment for Lina’s wealth and privilege. She begs Sunny to help her put the bracelet back, hoping this will save her job.

Back in time again to Lina’s teenage years, and recounting her senior year in high school. She gets closer to Qiang, who has dropped out of high school and has gotten involved in some sort of gang activity. He is kind and pleasant to be with. After her final exams, Lina spends her summer days exploring new places with Qiang as her guide.

Returns to the present and turns to Sunny, who arrives on Monday for her first day of work as the Zhen’s ayi. She takes the residents’ elevator up to their apartment for the first time, instead of the service elevator, and a new maid has been hired to do her old job for her, which she finds odd to witness. She misses the steady, quiet work of housekeeping and decides to help the new maid Joyce with her tasks while the family is out. In a moment of inspiration, she leans over the balcony and discreetly drops Lina’s stolen bracelet into the pool below, and then dials zero for the lobby to request that the pool be cleaned, drained, and refilled, hoping this will save Rose’s job.

Wei nervously awaits Qiang’s arrival. He recalls how Qiang used to taunt him with a shudder, calling him “Prince Wei.” He has a flashback of when Qiang first met Lina for the first time before college; Wei immediately liked him and was irritated when he thought Qiang was flirting with her. Back in the present, Lina interrupts his reverie, and they have sex. He notices how she is distant and wonders where her mind is. Qiang arrives, and the Zhens greet each other. The dynamic at dinner is tense. They learn Qiang is now a successful hospitality entrepreneur and is surprised by his transformation. When Qiang asks what Wei does and says he works for an American marketing firm, Wei criticizes him for bringing American products to the Chinese but not the other way around. When Qiang asks Lina if she is still working, Wei feels protective of his wife, who he feels Qiang is judging. After dinner, the brothers go to the balcony to smoke and speak privately. Wei criticizes Qiang for disappearing and not even attending their parent’s funeral, and Qiang challenges Wei for being the first to leave for America.

Turns to Lina and goes back in time again, to the summer before she left for college at Chujiao University in Hubei Province. Her parents are impressed that Wei has been accepted to the prestigious Fudan University and decide it is time for Lina to meet him. Lina thinks he is attractive, and after the party his parent’s host, she watches the Zhen brothers play basketball. Qiang sits beside her and mocks his brother for showing off. For the summer, she and Qiang spend many days together, swimming at the lake, playing cards, and talking about the future. She is both curious and worried about what he does, so on the last night before Lina leaves for college, he brings her to the house where he gambles. Cloudy, the stylish and bold young sister of one of the other gang members, keeps her company. Later that night, when she says goodbye to Qiang, he gives her a beautiful ivory bracelet from Africa that he won from gambling (the bracelet stolen from Lina.

Returns to Lina’s perspective in the present. At that first dinner, she noticed how Qiang had evolved and changed for the better. She waits all week for him to tell her why he came and whether it was for her. She and Wei argue that he is working so much, avoiding his brother and leave all of the hostings. One day, Lina and Qiang are alone for breakfast, and they discuss traveling and reading. Still, the conversation’s undertones are about the past lost opportunities and what they had together when they were young. Lina finds herself crying in front of him, and he comforts her.

Turns to Sunny, who has been watching the Zhen household’s tense dynamic since Qiang’s arrival, deciding she would rather not know what is between Lina and her brother-in-law. Rose calls to tell her she has been fired, and Sunny is worried about her friend. She heads to the internet café for the blind date Rose arranged for her and finds that Li Jun (Lewis Tan) is a kind and good man, someone with whom she could build a life together. However, after their first date, he asks if she could see them together long-term, and she wishes to give him the same directness and says that she has become used to living alone.

In the past of Lina’s years in college, she finds independence and intellectual stimulation. During the summer back home, she and Wei court and get to know each other emotionally and sexually. She’s drawn to his ambition and kindness. In the meantime, she and Qiang continue to communicate by letter, developing a more profound friendship. At college, she’s inspired by the feminist writings of Simone de Beauvoir. For the first time, she contemplates what opportunities she could have if she were to marry neither Wei nor Qiang.

Time goes by fast, she soon receives a proud letter from her father: Wei’s offered a full scholarship and allowance to attend graduate school, so she’d get married and join him in America. Back home, the night before her wedding, she and Qiang kiss and decide they want to be together. They agree to talk to their parents.

Turns to Wei in the present. The Zhens are ready to go to the Expo. This is the day that Sunny has been waiting for—it costs so much that if she had not been an ayi, she would not have had the opportunity—and the event that Qiang had supposedly come to Shanghai for. Wei receives a call from work saying they need him at the office, and Karen, who has no interest in the Expo, decides to join him at work, which means Sunny is forced to miss the Expo, and Lina and Qiang are left to spend the day alone. After work, Wei brings Karen and Sunny back home. He tries to get to know Sunny over dinner and is shocked by the difficulties she and her family have faced.

Lina is excited and nervous about spending the day with Qiang at the Expo. They explore the various pavilions of the Expo and bribe a security guard to let them into the UK pavilion at the end of the day. Lina loves the danger of trespassing after it is closed and realizes this is what life would have been like had she been with Qiang. She feels resentful and has a flashback of how she had broken her father’s heart by telling him she wanted to be with Qiang instead of Wei, and how he had kindly accepted her wish and gone to talk to Zhen Hong (Chow Yun-Fat), only to find that Qiang had not said anything to his father. The marriage went ahead, and Qiang disappeared without a word. After dancing around the topic all day at the Expo, they finally open the conversation. Lina discovers that Qiang is married to Sunny but that he wishes they had married instead. Lina demands an answer for what happened all those years ago.

Sunny is on her way out of the Zhens’ apartment after talking with Wei. On the road, the driver Little Cao (Manny Jacinto) receives a call from Lina, who says she needs his help to get her and Qiang out of the pavilion they have accidentally been locked into at the Expo. Sunny initially hesitate to indulge in gossip, but after a lot of prodding, she expresses her worry about Taitai and Qiang. Little Cao tries to cheer her up and convinces her to go out on the town with him, using Boss Zhen’s business cards to get into posh clubs and using his tab for drinks.

Wei is alone at home with Karen. He feels guilty for leaving Lina alone with his brother all day, especially when he hears that she has been locked into a pavilion with Qiang. He struggles to bond with his daughter while he awaits their release and return, realizing how distant they are. That night she gets her period for the first time, and in Lina’s absence, he tries to comfort her and help her figure out how to use a tampon. It is a comical father-daughter bonding scene in the end.

Back to Sunny, Little Cao’s convinced her to stop worrying about the Zhens and relax a little. While they wait for Expo security to release Lina and Qiang, Little Coa takes Sunny to a series of posh bars, impersonating Wei also running up his tab. He encourages her to seize the opportunities she’s been given and move out of the group living apartment. Sunny has a great time out. After a couple of drinks, she bumps into Li Jun. They agree to go on another date.

Lina, still at the Expo, is locked in the UK pavilion with Qiang. They find a bar in the VIP lounge, pouring themselves a drink. Qiang finally tells Lina the full truth: the story of their fathers. When university scholar Fang Lijian (Daniel Wu) was brought to the farm labor camp indoctrinated in socialist ideologies, he was separated from his wife and baby daughter (Lina). There, he met Zhen Hong, a kind and earnest farmer. Fang grew to like farming and came to appreciate the cause. He fell in love with a young woman named Yuzi, who had an infant son abandoned by her husband. When she died of tuberculosis, she begged Fang to take her baby. By then, a dear, close friend, Zhen Hong, offered to take the boy and raise him as his own, knowing what it would do to Fang’s family if he brought home someone else’s baby. In return, Fang promises his daughter to Zhen’s oldest son, making them a real family and fulfilling the revolution’s ideal of progress and unity across the classes: a farm boy and a scholar’s daughter married.

Returns to the present, and Lina is shocked by this story. It hits her that this orphaned boy is Qiang and that her father had cheated on her mother. She realizes that Qiang had done the right thing after all, and that “as selfish as Lina was capable of being, she could never have allowed her mother to look into the face of her son-in-law and see the face of her husband’s mistress.” He explains that he did not want to ruin her good relationship with her father by telling her. She now understands why he was so restless as a teenager, how Qiang felt like he didn’t belong in the Zhen family, and why he distanced himself from them and ultimately ran away. He did ask his father if it could be him that married Wei, but it was impossible because Qiang “was the debt,” and Lina was “the repayment.” But Lina is also angry because she realizes that Qiang had known this all along but still let her fall in love with him, and more than that, he let her wonder what happened for 22 years. He apologizes, admitting his cowardliness and his selfishness, and expresses his desire to make things right and be a brother to her and Wei. After Little Cao finally arrives with the Expo security to release them and take them home, Lina feels a sense of clarity. She decides to put her heart and efforts into her marriage, enroll Karen in school in China to raise her daughter to be a strong and independent woman, and encourage Wei to reconnect with his brother so they can be a family again.

Little Cao picks Sunny up to bring her to Lanson Suites the morning after their night on the town. He fills her in on finding Taitai and Qiang asleep in the pavilion, surrounded by empty glasses. Sunny nervously arrives at the Zhen’s apartment, assuming the worst, prepared to step in and take Karen to the movies if tensions were too high between the Zhen’s. Instead, she finds the family getting ready to swim. Lina gives Sunny a brand-new Nike bathing suit and invites her to join them. The Zhens seem happy and harmonious. At the pool, Sunny digs into the filter and finds Lina’s bracelet.

Based on the video game series
Cast: Shiori Kutsuna, Mark Dacascos, Kiki Suzekane, Pom Klementieff, Shun Oguri, Nana Komatsu, Jacob Fatu, Mike Moh, Tzi Ma, Tao Tsuchiya, Kelsey Asbille

Plot: It is a stormy night, lightning flashes in the sky and the rain falls violently. Some men move in the shadows as they reach a large house of a well-known very rich family. These men are part of the Manji clan, a group of ninja thieves leading by Yoshimitsu (Mark Dacascos). Yoshimitsu is the last designated heir of the mythical legendary sword of the same name. This sword is capable of corrupting people's souls by making them wicked and subsequently driving them to madness as often happened in previous centuries. The sword was, by its nature, in constant search of blood and to counter this the first Yoshimitsu had founded the Manji clan and started his work of defense of the weak and the innocent, robbing the rich to help the poor, which has been maintained over the centuries. However, this group has a habit of stealing from rich people to give to poor people, such as Robin Hood did. The group intrudes inside the house stealing money and various jewels without the owners noticing anything. The ninjas leave the house and head to their village. On the way home, the rain drops dramatically but lightning strikes some poor people's huts in a small village, causing a fire. Yoshimitsu notices smoke in the distance and rushes there. A hut is burning and an old man says someone is inside. Yoshimitsu hears a little girl cry and call her mother. The ninja enters the flames and finds two little girls crying near their mother, probably dead because a wooden beam hit her in the head. Yoshimitsu and the girls are divided by a lot of smoke and a wall of fire. Yoshimitsu with the help of his sword makes his way through the flames coming from the two girls. The two little girls are picked up in his arms and he manages to save them just before the hut was completely burned down. Unfortunately, however, one of the two girls had had burns on her face, just under her eyes. The other child, on the other hand, did not seem to have had any particular problems on a physical level, even if when she tried to talk she could not anymore. The young girls had lost everything, their home and probably their only family member, their mother. With the help of another ninja from his clan, Yoshimitsu was able to cure the burned child with special healing herbs that took away the pain even though she had ugly scars on her face. Meanwhile, the Yoshimitsu clan was quite reluctant to take the girls with them and voted that as soon as they were better they would leave the young girls there and the clan would continue their mission. Yoshimitsu reluctantly accepts the verdict because he felt sorry for the young lives he had saved. A couple of days later, the ninjas quickly left. Yoshimitsu greeted the girls as they were sleeping peacefully before leaving. When the ninja is coming out the door one of the two wakes up and pulls the other's shirt to wake her up and points to the door. The ninja clan is on their way to reach another house to burglary and has stopped to rest and refresh. Suddenly Yoshimitsu hears noises coming from the woods near the place. He draws his sword until the two girls come out of the woods. Yoshimitsu turns to the other clan members nodding his head. The young girls remained with the group and were subjected to hard training in the following period. Years passed and the girls had grown up and took the names of Kunimitsu (Shiori Kutsune) and Toramitsu (Kiki Sukezane) within the clan. Kunimitsu had her face covered with a mask of a white fox while her sister had a mask that resembled a tiger (The word Tora means tiger in Japanese). It is evening, the two sisters are highly respected within the clan, especially Kunimitsu for which Yoshimitsu had a certain predilection. Besides being respected, the two women are also feared especially by the younger members of the clan. Kunimitsu never takes off her mask and no one has ever seen her without and there is the legend in the clan that she is actually a demon because the legend says that once someone saw her without a mask and immediately went blind. Toramitsu instead shows herself without a mask, but unfortunately she has not been able to fully recover the word and the few times she makes her voice heard it is very disturbing. The two sisters will have to fight and whoever wins will become second in command after Yoshimitsu. From how they behave, we learn that they are no longer united as when they were little but have a certain rivalry between them. Toramitsu seems jealous of the clan leader's higher regard for her sister and she absolutely wants to win. The two prepare for the fight that takes place in isolated grassy terrain. Yoshimitsu is between the two and explains the rules. Kunimitsu is on the right holding her kunai while Toramitsu is on the left holding a pair of Sai knives. The fight begins and Yoshimitsu is very interested and follows the match with his arms folded. The two sisters begin to fight, the fighting style is very similar to each other and despite the attempts to overcome each other they seem to be equal. At one point Toramitsu seems to have taken over the meeting until her sister takes a particular position called Katon. Kunimitsu stands on one leg, ready to attack the opponent as light purple sparks appear and makes a ninja symbol with his hands. Kunimitsu sets off on the attack with a series of spectacular moves that hardly leave Toramitsu time to react. At one point, Yoshimitsu intervenes and declares Kunimitsu the winner of the match. Toramitsu punches the ground and walks off into the greenery as Kunimitsu celebrates victory.

A couple of days later the Ninja group learns that the rich and powerful tycoon Heihachi Mishima has organized a martial arts tournament. Yoshimitsu has the idea of participating as a distraction so that other clan members can try to steal money or something valuable. Kunimitsu agrees and convinces her leader to also participate in the tournament to prove herself. Kunimitsu and Yoshimitsu arrive at the tournament while the other ninjas, including Toramitsu, hide nearby to wait for the story to unfold. Kunimitsu will have to face a certain Michelle Chang (Kelsey Asbille) and watch her closely as she trains while Yoshimitsu will have to face an apparent old Chinese named Wang Jinrei (Tzi MA). Shortly before the match, the Chinese fighter withdraws from the match due to an unspecified physical problem. Soon after, Yoshimitsu sees him talking to a little girl, her niece Ling Xiaoyu as he gently strokes her hair. Yoshimitsu does not understand what he is saying to her but hears the words "tournament, Heihachi, bad person. Yoshimitsu leaves leaving the two. As he walks around he meets a rude and arrogant fighter named Ganryu (Jacob Fatu) who bragged about his illicit earnings from gambling and other illegal activities. Yoshimitsu discovers that his next opponent would be him. Kunimitsu meanwhile had been defeated by Michelle and joined the rest of the ninjas who were still hiding in the shadows to wait for the moment. just to get into action even though his thoughts were on the medallion Michelle was holding around her neck. Toramitsu teases his sister for defeat, who doesn't respond and just shrugs. Meanwhile, Yoshimitsu was about to initiate the match against Ganryu. The start seems in favor of Ganryu using his physical strength and power while taunting Yoshimitsu. At one point Yoshimitsu makes a strange sound with his sword. At that point the ninjas begin to move, that sound was a signal. Meanwhile, Yoshimitsu begins to engage and hits the opponent in the face with the handle of the sword. Then, right after that, he uses his "Triple Roundhouse" move, three kicks in quick succession. Then, as long as Ganryu is turned from the blows, the Ninja blocks him and using his sword leaps into the air causing Ganryu to crash violently to the ground. Ganryu is defeated. Then Yoshimitsu quickly leaves and is reunited with the other ninja, who in the meantime had stolen all of Ganryu's wealth. The group decides to leave the tournament, despite Yoshimitsu having passed the round. Shortly thereafter they find another fighter, Marshall Law (Mike Moh) who is sad because he hasn't gained anything from the tournament due to the first round defeat. He says his business is going bankrupt and he is afraid of letting his wife Kaori and young son Forest Law down. Without the man noticing, Yoshimitsu puts a box full of money in his backpack. Kunimitsu disagrees with Yoshimitsu's decision and says the man did not deserve that charitable gesture. Toramitsu watches this discussion without a mask and shows a half smile. Meanwhile, Ganryu, after the defeat, briefly meets Michelle, who leaves after her defeat in her second match. Ganryu freezes excitedly for the girl's beauty and when he wants to stop her to talk to her he starts stammering and runs off embarrassed to his quarters where he discovers that his wealth has disappeared and begins to destroy his entire room in anger.

A few days later, following another theft of a wealthy businessman Takashi Orochi (Shon Oguri) with many contacts with shady people in the Kyoto area, Yoshimitsu noticed that some money was missing from the loot and found it on Kunimitsu. There was a great argument between him and her, until she was banished and expelled for life from her clan. Toramitsu tried to intervene to defend her but she was blocked by her leader. Kunimitsu is preparing her things to leave when she is approached by her sister. Kunimitsu thanks her for trying to defend her until Toramitsu with a trick of her own does a count out of her sister's dress saying "Are you sure?". Kunimitsu then realizes that she has been framed by her sister. Kunimitsu said nothing and left with a desire for anger and revenge towards everyone. The next few months were tough for her as she moved into a studio apartment in Kyoto and recycled herself by working as a private night guard in a nightclub run by the shady businessman she and the other ninjas had robbed months ago. Unfortunately she had only managed to find that job. Meanwhile, she continued to train and searched for information on the locket Michelle Chang was wearing. She was initially made fun of by the men in the club because of her mask which she never took off but thanks to her strong character and her ability to block fights she became highly respected within the club. A stripper nicknamed Cherry (Nana Komatsu) took an interest in her and they became friends with her despite Kunimitsu's introverted temperament. One night there was a big party in the club where a lot of drugs and alcohol were shot. Kunimitsu was persuaded by Cherry to leave her seat at the club entrance and have fun for a night. Given Cherry's insistence, Kunimitsu accepts. At first she is totally disoriented but after a while with the help of her friend she manages to melt and even dance with a style similar to the one she uses in fights showing great agility and making Cherry laugh. After a couple of hours Cherry, half drunk, asks Kunimitsu to accompany her to one of the rooms above her to rest for ten minutes. The two enter and start talking and Kunimitsu begins to reveal something about her past. Cherry approaches her touching her mask as if to take it off. Kunimitsu blocks her hands instinctively but Cherry tells her to stay calm in a calm and gentle voice. Kunimitsu loosens her grip while still keeping her hands resting on Cherry's. Her mask is lifted for a moment revealing her face full of burns. At that moment Cherry changes her expression whispering "Forgive me .. Go away ..". A moment later many gunmen enter the room. Finally Kenji Masaki enters, slowly applauding, complimenting the moving scene and scornfully commenting on Kunimitsu's ugly scars. The man reveals that he had suffered a theft of a large sum of money months ago and that he absolutely had to recover it because he had to give it to dangerous men. He says that no one had seen anything, it seemed that the thieves were ghosts until several weeks later he was able to retrieve a frame from the security cameras that revealed a figure with a mask identical to that of Kunimitsu. He then tells him that Cherry helped him let her guard down and find out information. After this revelation Kunimitsu looks at Cherry and says he doesn't know where her money is because she no longer has contact with the other ninjas because she had been removed from her clan. Cherry stands up and walks shyly and sadly towards Kenji asking him if now that she has done what he wanted she could be paid so that she has the money to pay for the care of her seriously ill little brother. The woman receives a briefcase full of money and after apologizing to Kunimitsu saying she was forced to go to the door. As she is leaving she is summoned by Kenji to go back for a moment for one last thing. The girl stops for a moment at the door and goes back. The man whispers something in her ear and the girl reacts by stepping back from her yelling "No!". Kenji draws his gun and shoots twice in the chest of Cherry, who falls to the ground holding her hands to her chest while her blood also visibly comes out of her mouth as she tries to say something. Kunimitsu snaps to help her but she is invited to sit down and be calm about her because she would soon join her. Kenji says Cherry tried to warn Kunimitsu to escape just before the raid and that meant the end of their deal. Cherry takes her last breath as a tear falls down her cheek. He orders his men to kill Kunimitsu, who skilfully manages to dodge the bullets and jump out of the window and escape with great skill after swearing revenge. Kunimitsu hides in an alley and sees blood coming out on her arm, she tears a piece of her dress and tying it to her arm to stop the bleeding, however the wound does not seem very serious. A few weeks later Kenji is surprised to find a message from Kunimitsu saying it would bring him something more important than money. Hiratsuka city. The manji clan (like all Japanese people) is celebrating the Tanabata, one of the most important Japanese holidays that celebrates the poignant love story of Orihime and Hikoboshi, two deities represented today by the stars Altair and Vega. The city has entire neighborhoods whose streets are decorated with numerous and gigantic decorations while people are all out on the streets celebrating and having fun. Kunimitsu hides in the crowd recognizing his sister Toramitsu without her mask who is sitting on a sidewalk while she drinks sake, the typical Japanese alcoholic drink. Kunimitsu clenched her fists nervously but managed to calm down immediately. Toramitsu suddenly looked up in the direction where Kunimitsu was but she managed to vanish before being seen. Late at night the long and beautiful fireworks start in the starry sky. Taking advantage of her confusion and skill, the girl manages to steal the sword from Yoshimitsu and disappear without anyone noticing and heads to the city station hiding in the train leaving for Kyoto holding the legendary sword in her hands. Kyoto, it is dawn. The city is silent and a light fog envelops the whole city. Kenji is in bed while he sleeps, next to him a young woman, a prostitute. Suddenly he was awakened by noises and someone forcefully entering the room to warn him. It is one of his guards who falls to the ground dead a moment later. At that point Kunimitsu revealed herself. Kenji immediately takes the gun but Kunimitsu throws her Kunai at him which sticks in the man's hand stopping his run into the wall thus blocking the man's reaction. Kenji insults Kunimitsu as he feels pain. Then she send the scary prostitute away. Kunimitsu tells him that she brought him something more important than money, the legendary sword. As Kunimitsu approaches the man to kill him, Toramitsu reveals himself behind her and with her disturbing voice she tries to dissuade her and apologizes for what she had done because she was just jealous of Yoshimitsu's attitude towards Kunimitsu. Kunimitsu pounces on his sister holding the sword but Toramitsu manages to dodge the blow by jumping backwards. Toramitsu tries to make his sister think as the two begin to fight, Kunimitsu is in clear advantage. Toramitsu is hit several times by Kunimitsu and falls to the ground, even unarmed. Kunimitsu climbs on top of her and plans to kill her but Toramitsu manages to breach her sister's feelings of hatred. The moment she is placing the sword on the ground Toramitsu notices that Kenji has freed himself and is about to shoot. Toramitsu then jumps up and stands in front of Kunimitsu, sacrificing herself by being hit by the bullet in her stomach. Kunimitsu takes her sister in her arms who in a whisper tells her that they will always be together because they are one, like two sides of the same coin. Then she closes her eyes and dies. Kunimitsu screams and runs towards the terrified Kenji who is killed with many blows. Kunimitsu comes out of the house, her dress and her mask are stained with blood. In the garden, under a cherry tree is Yoshimitsu sitting cross-legged. Kunimitsu slowly approaches and plants the sword on the ground beside him. Then she walks away without saying anything thinking back to her sister's words that remind her of the medallion belonging to Michelle. Now Kunimitsu have the goal of trying to retrieve Michelle's medallion, hoping that the object can bring her sister back to life.

Many years later:
It is night, Yoshimitsu comes out of his hut attracted by noises. A little later he hears the melody of a flute. Yoshimitsu starts looking around until he was nearly hit by a knife thrown by someone who stuck in a tree. Attached to the knife was a photograph of Kunimitsu with a small girl, probably her daughter. Yoshimitsu noticed the presence of a masked woman who was sitting on the roof of his hut which reminded him a lot of Kunimitsu because of her mask and dress. Her mask was slightly different as she was smaller and left her mouth uncovered. Yoshimitsu jumped in her surprise and she was very quick to attack by throwing her Kunai knives which the ninja was able to avoid. She jumps down and then runs towards Yoshimitsu taking back her Kunai who were on the ground and attacking the ninja who managed to defend himself thanks to his mythical sword. The two begin to fight with no holds barred. At one point Yoshimitsu was hit several times due to his opponent's speed and agility and fell to the ground defeated. The girl swings her Kunai knives skyward and puts them behind her back. She then approaches Yoshimitsu revealing her to be Kunimitsu's daughter, taking off her mask (Pom Klementieff). She kneels and takes Yoshimitsu's sword. The camera shows the full moon behind the woman as she holds and trains with the sword. Yoshimitsu awakens and realizes that the sword has been stolen. The ninja begins to despair until a female voice draws his attention. She approaches, hands him the sword and tells him that she wants to be called Kunimitsu, in honor of her mother. She then she says that they will have to ally because the world is on the verge of a war.

In the midcredits:
Marshall Law is returning home after losing the tournament. At home, his wife Sakura (Tao Tsuchiya) is training alongside other martial artists in the dojo owned by Law. Marshall arrives with a sad voice and face throwing his backpack on the dojo floor revealing to his wife that they will have to close the dojo. Sakura sees something coming out of the backpack, approaches and sees that there is a lot of money. Marshall has no idea how they got there and lies comically that he won the tournament and that they will move to his grandparents' hometown of San Francisco to open a restaurant. The two embrace.

After the Credits:
A motorcycle whizzes quickly down the street until it reaches a building. The black-clad driver parks and gets out of the vehicle, removing her helmet, revealing that she is Nina Williams (Katheryn Winnick). She then she goes up to her apartment. As she climbs the stairs she meets another tenant of the building, a kind old lady who offers her a piece of cake asking her if the work had been good that day, saying that the children they can be really nasty. Nina smiles and nods as she walks to her door laughing for a couple of seconds to herself because the old lady believes she Nina is an elementary school teacher before returning to having a straight, focused face. She enters placing the cake on the table and looks at the wall where there are some photos of people. Nina removes them saying "Now you won't give anybody more problems ..". She also puts two guns on the table. She then takes off her boots and turns on the TV but a moment later she gets a call from one government agency because she has been selected for an important mission for the next day.

The Roundup with Jeff Stockton (Season 19 Round 6)

Despite the success of Klondike, the studio continues its box office cold streak. Here's The Roundup....

3. Vincent Gallo
I've always been a fan of Vincent Gallo's work (especially his film Buffalo '66 and his role in Francis Ford Coppola's Tetro), so it was nice to see him finally make it onto the LRF big screen - even if I didn't love the film.

2. Taylor Kitsch
While I didn't love Floyd Monroe (more on that below), Taylor Kitsch clearly did everything he could to make the film and title character work on the big screen. His performance definitely worked better than the film did as a whole.

1. Klondike
I really enjoyed Klondike. The casting of the three leads was spot-on. The filmmakers managed to make all three characters incredibly likable, even if the outcome of the love triangle felt inevitable. I expect to see the word Klondike a lot come GRA season.

3. Liam Hemsworth
I think it's officially safe to say that Liam Hemsworth is box office poison now. That con is certainly more than any pro (if any) he can bring to a project. Casting agents beware!

2. Floyd Monroe
The film is not a bad film, let me say that now. The plotting works and it moves at a good pace. However, the overall tone of the film felt off to me. Parts are far to jokey for a film with pretty serious subject matter, and the supporting characters felt a bit too cartoonish.

1. Box Office
This season started off very strongly on the box office front, but the last few rounds have been pretty rough. We still a Superman film and a mystery Marvel Universe film, so the studio should be fine financially by the end of the season, but things are definitely cold right now.

Klondike

Cast: Chris Pine, Elle Fanning, Dan Stevens, Ben Mendelsohn, Emily Watson, Michael K. Williams, Niles Fitch, Tim Blake Nelson, Joely Richardson, Timothy Spall

Domestic Box Office: $82,249,054
Foreign Box Office: $60,003,132
Total Profit: $22,090,328

Reaction: Very solid numbers for a historical romance film, which isn't exactly the type of films we release a lot of. The rising star power of the three leads had to have helped this one pull in such an audience.

"Jimmy and John do it again with another heart-stopping showcase detailing the plight of Alexander McCann. Chris Pine is on point throughout as he ventures through late 1890s San Francisco. The ending fight especially is a sight to behold and the relationship between Alexander and Katy is the cherry on top." - Mitchell Parker, New York Times

"While there are many impressive things about Klondike, that is also part of the problem. There's too much going on. Is it about mining for gold, the cabaret, the romance, the railroad, or something else entirely? The film is still certainly more than watchable, but that lack of focus keeps it from achieving greatness." - Charles Yost, Oregonian

"Klondike is a top-flight production from top to bottom. The trio of performances from its three stars (Pine, Fanning and Stevens) are all award-worthy for their work bringing this period tragedy to life." - Janet Donnelly, Empire Magazine
