Reaction: $90 million at the worldwide box office isn't terrible, but this one definitely cost too much to make any money with just a decent box office gross and all the high-priced/expensive talent in the cast.

"Brad Pitt's talents, and even star power, don't feel like they're put to good use here. He's done far better western work, that's for sure. Charlie Hunnam and Adam Driver are, thankfully, put to better use by the script from newcomer Wyatt Allen.  It was a decent debut for the writer, tackling a genre that is hard to completely nail." - Samuel O'Brien, Sight and Sound Magazine

"An Eye for an Eye starts off strong with a cute first scene between young Billy and James before making a shocking transition into a revenge film. The plot does lack from there and Brad Pitt doesn't do anything after he dies, but the action scenes are a lot of fun to watch Charlie Hunman and Adam Driver put in some solid work with what they're given. And that is just enough for me give this a recommendation to western fans." - Mitchell Parker, New York Times

"Aside from the opening, AEFAE has a 'been there, done that' feel throughout. The cast is talented, but they are unable to elevate their characters beyond the stock tropes they've been handed. Director Bong-Joon ho's style also feels completely out of place in this traditional western tale." - Sara Karlsson, Willamette Week

Rated R for violence and thematic material
