Klondike: Emily Watson (The Hunt, Worried Mind), Tim Blake Nelson (The Stranger, Hands on a Hard Body), Timothy Spall (The Sandman, Mr. Turner) and Joely Richardson (The Turning, Color Out of Space) have signed on to complete the cast of the upcoming Gold Rush-themed drama, Klondike. Watson will play a preacher's wife, Nelson the town mayor, Spall a railroad executive and Richardson the proprietor of a local theater trying to cater to a new clientele. Sam Mendes is directing the film from an original script by the duo of Jimmy Ellis and John Malone.
What We Were Promised: Hong Kong action legend Chow Yun-Fat (Shanghai, The Monkey King) has agreed to take on a supporting role in director Ang Lee's new film, What We Were Promised. Also joining the project is Aubrey Anderson-Emmons ("Modern Family") and Daniel Wu (Captain Atom 2, Eclipse). The film is based on the novel by Lucy Tan and adapted by newcomer Eden Townsend.
Lovestruck: Tyrel Jackson Williams ("Brockmire", Thunder Force), Kara Hayward (The Letter J, The Vegan Movie 2: Tariq Goes to Sarah Lawrence) and Jaden Smith (Nobody, Life in a Year) will round out the relatively small cast of Lovestruck. Williams will play the main character's best friend, Hayward will play a girl the main character has a crush on, while Smith will play Hayward's boyfriend. Alfonso Gomez-Rejon is directing from a script by Alex Conn.
Kazaria: The big budget fantastical thriller from director Guillermo del Toro has added Suki Waterhouse (Teen Titans, AGOS: A Game of Survival), Paul Giamatti (Life After Life, Halo 4), James Caan (Undercover Grandpa, Out of Blue) and Donald Sutherland (Cold, Maple Leaf) to its expansive ensemble cast. The blockbuster hopeful was written by Jacob Jones.
The Dark Tower II: The Drawing of the Three: Christian Bale (The Hit Maker, Mr. Earthling), Eric Bana (Hunter, Kiss Me Katie) and Noah Schnapp (ID, Peter and the Shadow Thieves) have all signed on to return for the second film in the Dark Tower series, The Drawing of the Three. Bale will once again be Roland the Gunslinger, determined to make his way to the fabled Dark Tower. Bana is back as the mysterious and magical Man in Black, while Schnapp is back as Jake Chambers, Roland's travel companion. Matt Reeves (Halo: The Fall of Reach, The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger) is back to direct, having signed a lucrative deal to personally direct every potential film in the franchise. The script was once again penned by the studio's resident Stephen King expert, Matt Parker (Sleeping Beauties, Coma).
Tokyo Rose: While not directing the film, Steven Spielberg (Hiroshima, A Circumstance of Time) has agreed to act as producer on the WWII drama, Tokyo Rose, based on a script by Chad Taylor (Prodigy, Kansas City). Sonoya Mizuno ("Devs", "Maniac") will act in the lead role as Iva Toguri, a Japanese-American forced to work on Japanese radio. Miles Teller (Julie, Before and After) and Ken Watanabe (Fractured, Mortal Kombat II) will also star in the film. Watanabe will play Toguri's father, while Teller will play an American POW. Taking over as director of the film will be Cary Joji Fukunaga (Atlas Shrugged, Fevre Dream).
