Reaction: There's not a ton that can be said about the losses on this one. The Drama genre can be very hit or miss, and usually it's a clear victory if a drama manages to just break even. Additionally, for whatever reason, dramatic films about fictional rock stars seem to struggle at the box office for the most part.
“I had some issues with the tone of the film at times, (often falling into a comedic tone) but once you realise there is comedy involved the film is quite enjoyable. The main stand out of the film for me was the chemistry between Kitsch and Hawke, and Hawke’s performance especially was great. Overall Floyd Monroe showcase the rise and fall and somewhat rise again of a rock icon and I am all in for it.” J. Darrell Ellington, Behind the Camera
"While a bit too hokey at times, Floyd Monroe manages to work thanks to the performances of Taylor Kitsch and Ethan Hawke. Without those two absolutely nailing their characters, the film absolutely would not have worked. The story is all over the place at times, but their performances help ground things." - Charles Triano, Los Angeles Times
"While Floyd Monroe is never a boring film, it feels all over the map tonally. Shifting between super serious moments and moments that feel like they're ripped out of a third-rate sitcom. There are performances that work, but just as many that don't." - Sandy Glavine, Atlanta Constitution-Journal
Rated R for strong sexual content/nudity, language, drug content and some violence
