Reaction: We're not sure exactly why this one under-performed, but it could be that it didn't contain enough thriller elements to help sell it overseas. While this film performed much better than her previous films, it still continues writer Rachel Hallett Hardcastle's rough start at the box office in her LRF career.

"Still Lives features a strong cast that give it their all and an interesting mystery to match it's unique setting. The film being marketed as a thriller is probably a poor decision as this is slow-moving story with thrills being few and far between. If you're expecting thrills and a fast pace, you'll be sorely disappointed, but if you want a methodical mystery led by Jennifer Lawrence, then you'll be pleased." - Lisa Winger, Newsday

“The setting of the Los Angeles art world is intriguing at first. However through most of the film I didn’t find myself thrilled, as it was marketed as a thriller, that is what I should be. It was to run of the mill for me, some story elements didn’t work and a few plot points weren’t resolved. Jennifer Lawrence has to carry the whole film on her shoulders as the supporting cast, bar a few, are not given much to do, at times she succeeds but others she does not.” - Francis McLaughlin, The Guardian

"With the cast, crew and setting of Still Lives, it really should have worked on paper. But what we ended up with on the big screen is a thriller that doesn't thrill and a long, convoluted story line that never really feels complete." - Michael Wilmington, Rolling Stone

Rated R for strong violent content, language and some sexual content
