We are now officially at the midway point of LRF's 19th season. Here's The Roundup....
3. Season 19 Box Office
Overall box office and profits are both a good deal higher than they were at this same midway point last season. The box office is about $400 million higher, while the profits are over 3 times as high.
2. New Writers
Wyatt Allen made his LRF writing debut this round with An Eye For An Eye - which I thought was a decent little western (with a big western budget). He's not the only new writer this season though, as the second half of the season will feature films from two more new writers: Eden Townsend and Harmony Winters.
1. Cecil
I loved Cecil. The rhythm of the storytelling made for a very interesting viewing experience (and the soundtrack absolutely added to the tone of dread and mystery). It's also the first time I haven't completely hated Awkwafina. Also, must we call her this? It's absolutely ridiculous.
3. Soundtracks
Having hit our midway point of the season, this one isn't looking like as much of a competitive Best Soundtrack GRA race with only four eligible films so far. Hopefully the second half of the season brings a few more into the race.
2. Dan Star
This felt too much like boiler-plate Alex Conn to me, but he simply substituted the teenagers with a middle-aged comedian. While I thought Chappelle was a good choice for the role, the casting of the female characters did not work one bit.
1. Profits
After two strong rounds to open the season, the studio has now lost money in three consecutive rounds. This season looks a little like Season 17 where it took the mega-blockbusters Namor the Sub-Mariner and Green Lantern Corps to make the season, but this time it may be up to Superman alone.
