Plot: The film opens and we see Kenneth Simon (Timothee Chalamet) get chosen as the winner of the trip to meet Christopher Van Schwartz (Joaquin Phoenix) the founder of the tech company Grapefruit and a girl named Tara yells and screams how she gets As and she should get it He then goes home to bring the big news to his mother (Sally Hawkins) who says his father would be so proud of him and his mom is only worried about him missing prom which Kenneth assures won’t happen as his mom hopes he will go to prom and she has tailored a suit just for him. The next day a girl named Alexandra (Katherine Langford) who had just broken up with her boyfriend asks Kenneth to the prom and says he can text or FaceTime anytime he wants.
He eventually flies out to Colorado to meet Christopher Van Schwartz who is wearing a panda mask to make sure the public doesn’t recognize him. He drives him home to his mansion where he drops off his stuff and Christopher takes him to a pub where he explains his rise and fall how they were sued by Apple and how he started the company with his two best friends and his love story with a girl named Amy. He eventually was kicked out of his own company because of his alcoholism which he developed after Amy broke his heart. He then shows Kenneth around the house except for the basement which he says that Kenneth should never go down due to a bad gas leak. Kenneth goes to sleep and Facetimes Alexandra and Alexandra asks him to videotape around the house. He finds Christopher Van Schwartz with 10 empty bottles of beer on the couch watching old interviews on his massive TV. He runs back to his room and sends Alexandra the footage. Alexandra calms him down and reminds him of prom.
The next day Kenneth and Christopher go to a brothel. Christopher specifically says he does not want to have sex he just wants to watch Kenneth do it and watch. Kenneth refuses at first not knowing that he was being brought to a brothel but Christopher refuses to let him be brought out. The sex starts happening and Christopher is masturbating and Kenneth is visibly uncomfortable so much so that Kenneth starts crying.
When they get home Christopher starts making fun of Kenneth and kind of slaps him until he apologizes. Kenneth says that he is sorry and Christopher tries to make another appointment at the brothel before Kenneth leaves and Christopher starts verbally assaulting Kenneth until Kenneth goes to bed. Christopher tells Kenneth that they are going to hunt for deer because he doesn’t believe Kenneth is a real man.
Christopher Van Schwartz brings Kenneth hunting for deer. Christopher Van Schwartz teaches Kenneth how to shoot a gun and how to skin a deer. They shoot deer and they bring the skinned deer. Kenneth asks Chris if they were going to eat the deer. Christopher says that he uses the deer as an art project and he shows Kenneth to his basement where he reveals the masks to him. After this Kenneth brings women’s clothes that he has collected and makes Kenneth pretend to be Amy while he masturbates.
When Kenneth is in bed he calls Alexandra and tells her about the masks and Alexandra says he’s just a weird reclusive artist and she says it might make a cool documentary. Kenneth goes with his iPhone and videotapes Christopher Van Schwartz masturbating in a deer mask. He also finds a dead panda bear in Christopher Van Schwartz’s basement it is very scary looking and disturbing. The cops says they will be there tomorrow. This is Christopher Van Schwartz hears it and he whispers to himself it’s time.
The next day Kenneth wakes up and he is on the operating table. Before the procedure Christopher reveals the entire story behind his relationship with Amy including her murder by him. The surgeons are all wearing deer masks and Christopher Van Schwartz brings the panda skin and they start removing the organs but before they can finish. The Colorado Police, led by Officer Kennedy (Frank Grillo) knocks on the door and one of the surgeons goes unmasked and the police shoots him. The police raid the compound.
Because the surgeons are distracted Kenneth is able to take a knife and kills three of the surgeons and the police threatens to shoot Christopher Van Schwartz and Christopher Van Schwartz is arrested.
The film ends with Kenneth just getting home from prom and having sex with Alexandra and he gets a mysterious knock on the door.
