Reaction: Despite the enthusiasm of the filmmakers and the small but loyal fan base of the comic series, this one drastically under-performed. The film being done in motion-capture animation could have turned off potential audience members, as most films done completely in that style of animation have not performed well (especially not without big-name stars like Tom Hanks or Jim Carrey attached), and the R-rating certainly didn't help matters.

"Andy Serkis has certainly proven himself as a director capable of getting emotionally-driven performances out of animated characters." - Ben Mazur, SciFiNow

"When a film is set in an unfamiliar world, usually the filmmakers will ease the viewer into the alien territory. Not here, the viewer is thrust into the worlds of Saga without much direction or world-building." - Ben Fullmer, Knoxville News Sentinel

"Brian K. Vaughn's comic series may simply be too reverent toward other genre films to really ever work on its own merits. There's certainly some beautiful imagery translated beautifully from the books by Serkis' animated direction, but the visuals alone can't seem to carry this story in need of better handling." - Glenn Howard, Total Film

Rated R for sci-fi/fantasy violence, sexual content, disturbing images, thematic material and language.
