Reaction: Well, it ends our streak of profitable western films at seven straight films, becoming the first in the genre to fail to break even for the studio since its first attempt at the genre, the highly-acclaimed Blood Meridian.

"The film is, frankly, too bizarre to make much of a dent with mass audiences. Some of the oddities are amusing, but some of them fall into the realm of distractions from the main story. There are too many of these distractions, keeping us from truly connecting with Stubby's goals (which don't even become clear until far too late into the story)." - Evan Kane, Buffalo News

"Stray Dogs feels like vintage Robert Rodriguez, the director of Desperado and From Dusk Till Dawn, has finally returned. It's a nice return to form from him after years of disappointing films like Shorts, Spy Kids and Alita: Battle Angel. The film is a brutal, funny mess - and I mean that in a good way." - Ken Hammerschmidt, Washington Post

"James McAvoy is a bit too boring in the lead role. Thankfully supporting players like Gary Cole, Don Cheadle and John Leguizamo make up for it with over-the-top, colorful performances." - Allen Poole, AV Club

Rated R for graphic violence and gore, sexual content including a rape scene, disturbing images, and some language.
