Reaction: Excellent numbers for this R-rated dramatic thriller (not exactly a strong genre duo at the box office). This film continues the strong comeback of Russell Crowe, as well as a sixth consecutive profitable film from the studio for director Nicolas Winding Refn.
"Where the original anime plays more like an adolescent boy fantasy, this film takes the bare-bones concept and turns it on its head, creating a much more emotionally conflicting film about loss." - Shawn Moseby, Fresno Bee
"When I heard that this film was based on an anime mostly know for being banned for being considered child pornography in some countries, I was skeptical how it would all play out. Much to my surprise, director Nicolas Winding Refn has delivered a stylish, thought provoking thriller." - Jason Helm, New York Observer
"Mackenzie Foy already has a GRA for Best Supporting Actress under her belt, and I will be surprised if she isn't at least nominated for Best Actress this time around for Kite. Russell Crowe, as well, gives a performance at the top of his game." - Matt Carson, Arizona Republic
