Reaction: Another fine film has struggled to find an audience. Thankfully this one managed to pull in a small profit, as not all of our films have been so lucky of late. Without Green Arrow, Halo 2, Masters of the Universe and Batman: Gotham Knight, this would be a very dismal season. It remains to be seen what this means for Ben Collins' planned follow-up.

"Hits a few too many of the same beats as the previous Eggers-Collins-Seyfried collaboration, Siren. The mystical creature, it's dangerous obsession with a human lead, the high body count, etc. It would be nice to see these talents branch out a little more." - Madison Bennett, Vanity Fair

"For being the headlining character, Garrett Hedlund is not given enough to do here. Emmy Rossum is the one who gets the real meaty role in this one, and it could be a breakout performance for her outside of her television role on Shameless." - Jason Helm, New York Observer

"The mood of the film is very gloomy, with scenes perpetually filled to brim with grime and fog. Eggers continues to show growth as a director who can handle more than just the visual elements though, as The Creature features several strong performances from its cast." - Lisa Winger, Newsday
