Reaction: It is really unfortunate that this film could not find an audience in theaters. The film, however, performed pretty well on home video - the film was set to lose quite a bit more money without those sales - so at least the film found an audience somewhere.
"Director Todd Haynes and writer James Morgan wisely allow their talented cast the reigns to really build their characters on screen, piece by piece. With the non-linear format giving us small, satisfying bits of information on the characters at time." - Geoff Bray, Slant Magazine
"The film loses all of its momentum every time it switches over to Gabourey Sibide and her subplot. Every time the film starts getting good in the main plot line, we get sidetracked by a far less interesting story." - Henry Stewart, Chicago Sun-Times
"Between this and An Honest Mistake, Cate Blanchett is proving to have quite the season. Here she gives a tense, dramatic performance as a woman at the end of her rope, one that ranks as one of the better performances of her storied and acclaimed career." - Jon Farrell, Hollywood Reporter
