Amy (Emma Mackey), Shauna (Danielle Brooks) and Cass (Maya Hawke) are at a church to do a little celebration for Pretzel’s life and for Cass’ fÅ“tus. Things are still awkward between Shauna and Amy and both say they don’t want to talk about it. Shauna starts a monologue with heavy Christian references and Cass says she doesn’t believe in that shit and forces Shauna to invent something else. She then asks Cass to sing the song she wrote for the occasion. The poignant song about what it could have been plays while we see flashbacks of Keven (Jake Cannavale) raping Cass and her figuring out she was pregnant. Right after the song is over, Cass leaves in a hurry. Shauna decides to confront Amy about the kiss and Amy says she doesn’t have feelings for J.D., but Shauna says she did seem like she enjoyed it, but Amy counters by saying it didn’t look he cares about Shauna at all. Shauna then leaves, which leaves Amy alone. She kisses a pretzel and eats it, thinking about her friend as the opening credit starts.

Cass is running in the street, like she’s trying to blow off some steam. She tries to scream, but no sound is coming out, which frustrates her.

Shauna is at work and is surprised by J.D. (Algee Smith), who wants to talk to her. He tries to tell her that he didn’t mean to kiss Amy, he just wanted to get back at her because she didn’t want him to sit with her friends. He confesses her love to her and says they were heading in the right direction, as see flashbacks of their best moments together. To try to buy peace, he says he meant to give her something the other night and he gives her an expensive necklace. She tells him it’ll take a while before she trusts hima gain and he says he’s really patient. They smile and he leaves, while Shauna puts on the necklace.

Amy is chased in the streets by her creepy landlord Alan (Dean Winters) who wants to talk to her. He warns her to look where she’s going and insults him, but she bumps into a fire hydrant and falls. He just wants to say he’s sorry, he didn’t want to force her to do anything, he’s not that kind of guy. Amy insults him again and he asks her if she’d want to go out with him, but she insults him once again.

Cass is still trying to scream, to no avail. She thinks about the time her father (Eric Dane) was beating her mother (Robin Tunney) and when Keven was hitting her and she’s finally able to scream, which puts a smile on her face. Sher realises she was watched by two teens who make fun of her and she insults them before she walks away.

Shauna is moping the floor in the restaurant when she sees J.D. kissing a girl in his car. He gives the girl twenty bucks and she leaves. Shauna goes out to confront him and she says she was no one, it was just for fun. He says there is no one who loves her more than he does. He tries to kiss her, but she whispers to him that he’s a liar, a punk and son of a bitch. She pushes him away and she says she doesn’t believe him anymore and leaves him hanging. As she walks away, she turns back tells him he better forget about her and she throws the necklace down a manhole.

To try and forget her awful day, Amy goes to the local bar and Nassim (Ramy Youssef) offers her a shooter, but Amy declines, saying she doesn’t want to only be interesting when he doesn’t have anything better to do, which leaves Nassim uncomfortable. She throws hints at him that she’s interested and he flirts back a little, but there’s some tension between them. Amy finally accepts the shooter, but the tension is still there afterwards.

When the bar closes and Nassim is moping the floor, Amy is next to him smoking. He reveals to her that he used to DJ in bars, which she finds funny. She wants to know his DJ name and offers to reveal a secret of her own afterwards. He says it’s embarassing, but since he loved science when he was a kid, his DJ name was DJ Neutron and Amy doesn’t understand the reference, but laughs nonetheless. Amy tries to chicken out of telling her secret, but she caves in, but instead of revealing her secret, she kisses Nassim and they lie down on a table.

Cass is back home trying to sleep as her cousin Justine (Camren Bicondova) is throwing a party, which angers Cass who just wanted some peace and quiet. She yells at them to turn the volume down, but Justine just turns it up.

Amy and Nassim are still kissing, but Amy pulls away for a moment and tells him that she must go and invents a fake excuse. They kiss all the way to the door and she leaves Nassim hanging.

Cass finally gives up and joins the party, jumping awkwardly, prompting Justine to tell her she’s a bad dancer, but Cass doesn’t care. She starts to drink heavily, which reminds her of that fateful party.
