Shauna peeks out the window and Amy wants to sing her a song, but Shauna says the baby’s sleeping, but it’s too late now the young kid is at the window. Amy sings a crass song about J.D. while Marcel plays the guitar, but it turns into a sweet song about her friendship with Shauna. Amy ends by saying she’s sorry and Shauna forgives her. Amy berates Marcel because he was off tempo as the opening credits start.
Amy is skipping in the street and when Marcel asks her what’s going on, she says she’ll hit her psychiatrist today. We cut to Amy with boxing gloves and Amelie with punch mitts and Amelie screams at her to take out her anger. Amy misses and hits Amelie square in the jaw, which ends the exercise. Amy says she’s sorry and Amelie asks her what Amy was thinking about when she was punching the mitts. Amy says she was thinking hard about not missing the target and not messing everything up. Amelie reminds her that she can’t control everything and it’s alright when she messes up and she shouldn’t hold herself accountable for everything that happens to her and everyone she knows.
Cass (Maya Hawke) is fixing her hair in the rearview mirror. She takes a deep breath and looks at a piece of paper. She’s going to confront her father about everything he did to her and her mother.
Shauna is at work and serving a client when J.D. (Algee Smith) tries to talk to her, but she ignores him. He gets aggressive and the lady she’s serving tells him to back off and he does. Shauna thanks the lady.
Amy enters her apartment and Bianca (Megan Mullaly) who is day-drinking again, tells Amy she had a visitor while she was out and she told him to fuck off, because Amy was at her boyfriend’s. Amy thinks it was the landlord again and thanks her, but Bianca tells her it was a man called Nassim. Amy is mad at her, but Bianca told her she did it for her own good, she doesn’t want her to go out with people of color. Amy then tells her mother to pack her stuff and leaves. She breaks everything, pays for nothing and messes with her life. Bianca gets angry and warns her that she’s never going to see her face again and she’ll regret it until the day she dies, but Amy is serious. Bianca grabs a garbage bag and throws her stuff in it. Bianca tells her that her life is a mess cause of her, that her father left because she didn’t want her and she blames her for her life of misery. Before she leaves, she warns her daughter that even though she thinks she’s special, she’s just a white trash girl who’ll never achieve anything. After she leaves, Amy notices flowers left by the door and picks them up.
Cass is on the phone with Shauna who gives her a pep talk while Cass is sobbing, trying to find the courage to confront her father. She freaks out when she seems him pull in the driveway, but Shauna gives her the confidence boost she needed and she heads for the front door.
Amy is looking at the flowers, thinking about Nassim, until she hears someone knocking. She’s excited, thinking it’s him, but it’s Alan (Dean Winters). She tells him to fuck off because she’s waiting for someone, but he notices the flowers and asks her if she liked his gift. She thanks him sarcastically. He tells her he saw Bianca leave and he could cheer her up a little. She refuses the offer, but he blocks her in the doorway and gets insistent. He tells her he can’t stop thinking about her and he could take care of her like a real man can. He’d treat her like a princess. She hits him in the groin and slams the door. He tries to get in again. He keeps knocking, saying he just wants to talk. Amy sneaks out the window to avoid him.
Cass is nervous, shaking, fondling her piece of paper. Her mother (Robin Tunney) answers and they share a warm embrace. Their joyful moment is interrupted by her father (Eric Dane) who insults her. Her mother invites her in, but Cass denies. Cass tells her mom she should get out of there, she deserves better. She stares down her father as she walks away and she leaves in her car.
Amy is at Cass’ and watches Justine (Camren Bicondova) playing video games. She wants to small talk with her but doesn’t understand her nerdy lingo. Cass comes home and invites Amy on a walk and she happily leaves.
Shauna comes home and her sister Nia (Amandla Stenberg) is in the living room dancing with her daughter. She seems overly happy and asks Shauna to come dance with them. They danced all day and Shauna is mad her niece didn’t go to kindergarten. She asks Nia if she’s high or something, but she denies everything. She doesn’t join in on the fun.
Cass and Amy are at the bar drinking their sorrow. Cass is thinking about the party where she drank too much and more memories come back. It appears she was raped in front of people, but the memory is fading. Amy goes to the bar and sees Nassim (Ramy Youssef). She tells him she doesn’t have a boyfriend and he says it’s alright, her mother looked insane anyway. She goes back to her table, only to find out Cass is gone and Shauna is here. She wonders where Cass went and Shauna tells her she went to see her father today. They find her in the bathroom on the phone with Keven (Jake Cannavale). She yells at him, telling him he’s an asshole. She was raped in front of him by three men and he didn’t do anything and that’s even worse. He says it’s her fault for dancing like a slut and she looked for it. She berates him on the phone and starts crying. She ends up throwing the phone on the floor. Amy says she’ll kill Keven for what he did and she breaks the mirror. She says she needs some air on her way out, she sees Nassim talking to another woman and she dumps a pitcher full of beer on him.
