Reaction: This one came close to breaking even thanks to strong home video and other other ancillary sales, but it ultimately wasn't enough. The mixture of the two cartoons just didn't seem to click with audiences at the box office (the domestic box office is a good deal lower than our internal studio estimates).
"Much like he did with The LEGO Batman Movie, director Chris McKay has crafted an inherently silly film that should have enough going on to amuse young and old alike." - Chris Mears, Slashfilm
"I understand that these characters come from a cartoon, but without having seen the shows I had no idea who these characters were. The story doesn't really help us out with this as character development is kept to an absolute minimum as we don't ever really learn anything of use about Johnny Bravo or Samurai Jack as characters." - Dave Cone, New York Post
"I don't understand the point of combining the cartoon source material into one movie. I've been told that Samurai Jack has a rich backstory, but he really has no use in this particular film, as the quiet samurai warrior essentially is made into Hemsworth's sidekick." - Clark Davis, JoBlo.com
