Reaction: Alternative has surpassed Lost Planet as our biggest bomb at the box office. We knew this was a risky release given the expensive plot, the lack of star power, as well as Tim Burton's less than stellar recent track record, but we never envisioned the film losing this much money.
"The idea of a group of God's creations duking it out to see who gets to rule Earth 2.0 is a clever one full of potential. Not all of that potential is fulfilled, but enough is to make for a worthwhile trip to the cinemas." - Olive Carroll, Houston Chronicle
"The problem with Alternative is with the execution, not the idea. The concept of the film is a fun one that could have definitely made for a good movie, but the right pieces just weren't put into place. Tim Burton feels off directing a film like this, giving a phoned-in job behind the camera. The casting isn't great either, with it populated by a bunch of young actors devoid of charisma." - Jeff Stockton, The Roundup
"The only member of the cast that fairs well is Kaya Scodelario as Eve. The rest all feel woefully miscast in a film of this scope. Tim Burton, known for his quirky visuals, also feels like a questionable choice to direct. The story does not play to his strengths as a filmmaker at all." - Brenton Smalls, Playboy
